Republicans figure they're gonna lose in 2018 anyway, might as well go out with a bang.

Republicans have to know that democrats will sell this as another health bill, right? "Take away peoples healthcare to give rich people tax cuts" is not going to be popular.

Part of me just wants Republicans to ruin healthcare. It'll make passing Medicaid-for-all that much easier in 2020.

No it won't.

If single-payer passes it will be because it's objectively better and progressives make a case for it, not because of whatever the GOP does.

I was attempting to be facetious, unsuccessfully.

We have practically a 51-49 split in representation, and the 51 gets 100% of the power.

Isnt that true of most representative democracies?

I dont think anybody should be surprised about Murkowski's possible yes vote. Shes been consistently more conservative than Collins on quite a few issues.

I thought the Senate version of the bill didn't have the tuition remission part.

There is something really cynical about how Trump is holding this rally and blantly lie to these peoples faces about how he will not benefit from this bill and helping the middle class is its backbone

To be fair, he probably knows as much about the bill as they do.

I'm not going to straight up panic yet. If "the Trigger" is in the senate bill, I expect it to be removed in conference which might freak out Corker and the upcoming Byrd Bath probably endangers Murkowski's vote.  Regardless of what happens, we've got atleast another week of this crap.

Corker and everyone besides Collins and Murkowski and McCain were/are always and always will be yeses. Don't kid yourself

There will be much moaning and gnashing of teeth by various Republicans along the way, but eventually this will pass in some form.

I'm aware, but I've got a slim ray of hope that something screws this all up.

I'm really dumb about stuff like this, but I'm worried, depressed over it, and need some help understanding it. If/when this passes, will it be for forever or can it be changed/overruled (for lack of a better word at the moment) if Dems win President and majorities in both Chambers in 2020? If it actually starts doing all the bad things opponents are saying it will, can we have another vote on tax reform and redo/undo this in another Congress? Tax stuff like this goes over my head and I'm totally ignorant about it.

I'm at a loss myself but it makes me feel better that a bunch of tax wonks on Twitter seem optimistic of this bill.

You think passing this will make Trump at least modestly popular? (low-to-mid 40s)

Like Yank said, the tax bill is very unpopular. You dont get an approval bump from passing an unpopular bill.

It may give him a boost next April when the median household finds out they are indeed getting a tax cut

They'll probably be to distracted by the huge premium increases this bill is going to cause.

I'll believe Corker and Flake have a pair when I see it.

What makes you guys so opposed to this but you supported bush and Reagan tax cuts?

I didnt support the Bush tax cuts and wasn't around for the Reagan tax cuts.

Matt Fuller seems to think something is going on with the vote to send this bill back to committee.
