Any chance swing-district Republicans get cold feet about this after yesterday's results?

I don't care about the politicking around it. If this sh*tburger passes, it's going to be a disaster for the American people. It must be stopped at all costs.

I assume the Senate plan also eliminates the Worthless Entitled Rich Kids Tax (the estate tax).

No. It keeps it but raises the threshold.  It is the same as the House plan except the House plan will completely remove the tax after a transition period (2023?) while the Senate plan will leave it in with a higher threshold.

Then yeah, I am willing to concede that the Senate plan is marginally but distinctly less awful than its House counterpart.

Still hoping this all falls apart, though.

Part of me just wants Republicans to ruin healthcare. It'll make passing Medicaid-for-all that much easier in 2020.

No it won't.

If single-payer passes it will be because it's objectively better and progressives make a case for it, not because of whatever the GOP does.

Then they'll have to pay them more, won't they?

Hahahahaha, good one. Somehow I'm not seeing a public university finding more money for grad students, especially non-STEM ones.

I'm not going to make a big deal out of this because there are people far worse off than me, but yeah, this would royally screw me over too.

So you're saying universities have been overpaying their grad student assistants since they could have gotten them for less?  Doubtful.

You have way too much faith in muh free market working like an Econ 101 textbook pretends it does.

Can we please go back to the topic of this thread, ie the Congressional GOP f**king over the middle class to give rich kids a Christmas gift?

I love Christmas! Smiley

I doubt you are on Ryan and McConnell's Good Kids List.

Where the f**k are the Democrats?!? Where the f**k are the healthcare activists?!? This is Obamacare repeal 6.0 + a bunch of horrible tax breaks for billionaires and nobody has been trying to do anything about it.

The left is a f**king joke if we can't even hold people accountable for voting for this sh*t bill. We deserve to keep losing.

Mondale is repeating his predictions before the Healthcare bill word for word. I take this as a very good sign.

I wish I could, but if Murkowski actually is a yes there's really no way it fails.

Calm down for a second, no Democrat is going to vote for this bill and most are railing against it.

Of course they're not going to vote for it, that's not the point. The point is that people should have been harassing Collins, Murkowski,  et al. to make sure they voted against it and that there would be repercussions if they didn't.

Oh, it'll probably pass the Senate. Doesn't mean that it is going to become law. The House and Senate versions are quite different and there's a pretty good chance this thing dies in conference because of the mandate and SALT.

Ryan will just ram through the Senate bill. There will be a few defections from the Lunatics Caucus, but not enough.

The question is, why in the world are most ads on air right now in support of this piece of garbage? Why aren't Democrats and progressive groups running their own ads against it?

I'm more worried that muh deficit hawk Corker voted yes. At this, point, this might past without Pence even having to break the tie.

And the monumentally catastrophic change in the tax code for graduate students is still in there, correct? Sad

Of course

Sigh...

Well, this will be fun.

I was joking earlier about them still writing the bill with typos and mistakes in it and look:

Does this last moment scramble have any chance of flipping McCain due to his whole "order" thing?

If it was more than just posturing, it certainly should.

I'm glad theyre passing it. Only makes 2018 worse for them

So you care about political wins more than about what actual policy comes out of it. Wonderful.

Here's the long list of amendments that have been submitted. Amendments have been submitted by members of both parties. Note that not all amendments will receive votes. https://www.rpc.senate.gov/tax-cuts-and-jobs-act-reconciliation-tracker

What does it take for an amendment to get voted on?

Are they really going to vote on a bill with handwritten annotations on it? Really?
