Similar to a thread I made before, now with something hopefully more comparable. It turns out Harvey wasn't so bad after all.

I think it's too early to say. We are still in the midst of the aftermath of Maria.

Maria is still unfolding, not even all of the public is aware of what's happening yet. We'll have a better idea by next weekend.

I'm going to preemptively say Maria. Charlottesville was bad, but Trump has spent the aftermath of Maria doing nothing but putting on display his complete absence of empathy.

C'ville was horrible, but Maria is shaping up to be far worse than Hurricane Katrina. Trump's incompetence knows no bounds and he is costing people their lives in PR by not sending more help.

Maybe I'm just really in the dark about this, but I don't think Maria has had any affect at all.

Neither.

You people are really on MARIA? Should the President wave his magic harry potter want and put the island back together?

You do realize that moving supplies, sending ships and rebuilding infrastructure takes time. Especially when you have to send those supplies to a frickin Island.

And Harvey wasn't that bad? The highest rain totals from a U.S. Tropical system in recorded history? Entire towns under feet of water?

It was much easier to respond to Texas and Florida (the supplies were staged and relief was on the ground within hours after the storm ended.)

Let me guess, the response to Puerto Rico has been slower because they are majority Hispanic, right?

It has nothing to do with the logistics of shipping things to an island.

I have news for you, anyone with two brain-cells can see that the disaster response to Harvey and Irma were light-years ahead of Katrina and Sandy.

The response to PR is underway. The military is actually airdropping relief in as we speak.

Yet you people would rather lie about the President and actually hope that people in PR suffer because you DESPERATELY want another Katrina.

Too bad, so sad, it isn't happening.

Keep on REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEing.

I honestly, can't believe the nonsense that is spouted in here. This place makes DU look sane.

I'm out, but I'll come back from time to time to drink year tears of unfathomable sadness in the future!

As for the real story from the ground on PR:

    Gas stations re-opened: http://i.magaimg.net/img/1hz5.jpg

    Dialysis centers functioning: http://i.magaimg.net/img/1hz4.png

Here is a map of the Emergency Operation Centers in Puerto Rico (in Spanish). Also, commodity deliveries are being made to the City Halls.

The ports reopened on 9/26, but some have restrictions in size and times: https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/USDHSCG/bulletins/1b98ce4

As of 9/27, only two of the airports were open, but it appears all are back online today: http://i.magaimg.net/img/1i49.jpg

As of 9/28, 90% of the island has been searched and rescues have been performed: http://i.magaimg.net/img/1hkn.jpg

    Hospitals? http://i.magaimg.net/img/1i48.jpg

Here are tweets from the ongoing processes from FEMA (main): https://twitter.com/fema

So I take it you think saying this (http://time.com/4963903/donald-trump-puerto-rican-leaders-want-everything-to-be-done-for-them/) is fine?

Can't say since we can't see the effect of Maria yet. C'Ville didn't hurt him that much aside from probably solidifying his negatives. Maria has the capacity to be worse since it transcends identity politics and really just comes down to his fundamental competence, and also his approvals had started to slightly improve, entering the low 40's again, so he has room to go down a little bit again.

Maria. Using HAARP to create 3 destructive hurricanes back to back to back is too much. Thw Joint Chiefs need to limit weather machine usage.

Maria, I think we're so used to people being horrible that we've forgotten that people actually still support disaster relief.

Charlottesville is the bigger negative.

Trump was right on Charlottesville; the primary problem there was the need to restore law and order for the folks who did not wish to act like jackasses and wished only that they be able to live in peace in their town.  People didn't understand the role of Antifa on the day of the demonstration, however; they just understood "Nazis" and "Klansman" and "counterdemonstrators".  (Really, what are "counterdemonstrators" there for but to provoke extremists to violence?)  Had he merely stuck to the law and order line without going onto the "both sides" bit, he'd have gotten out of there OK.

Trump's now in a "When did you stop beating your wife?" zone on this issue.  I don't believe Trump is a racist, white supremacist, alt-right carrier of ringworm and jock itch, but I want to bang my head every time I see Trump not grasp the need for just a wee bit of sensitivity here.  Trump's put himself in a position of having to prove a negative on this aspect of his image, and he needs to be sincere AND sensitive on this issue.
