What about the 5 million other fast food brands or junk food companies? I guess you could tax junk/fast food and use that to subsidize fruits and vegetables if you really want to try something. That is if you have no problem using taxation to regulate behavior. Of course we do it a lot already so probably not a big deal. I would benefit from the move so I support it.

McDonalds is by far the most popular, so only McDonalds should be abolished. I'd be fine with an excise tax on all other fast food burger restaurants though.

McDonalds is nowhere close to being the main driver of obesity in this country. I guarantee you that if we got rid of agricultural subsidies for corn and subsidized/expanded access to healthy foods, obesity rates would decline significantly.

McDonald's might be collapsing. They oversaturated the market by putting a McDonald's on every street corner in America so there are hardly any local monopolies on McDonald's. That and they're pissing off their franchisees with the all-day breakfast menu.

At this point McDonalds could close a fourth of its restaurants without much pain since it's so popular. The only way to shut it down, which must happen since it is WAY too popular, considering its entire purpose as a business is to make people obese, is through abolishment.

Its entire purpose as a business is to (a) turn a profit by (b) providing customers with low-cost, quickly made food items. McDonald's doesn't cause obesity; it's a combination of factors that drive the obesity epidemic, such as food deserts, lack of time for meal preparation, subsidies for corn, personal choices, and low-incomes. McDonald's has begun incorporating healthier food options and are slowly transitioning to better quality food products due to the consumer and public demand.

It's true they're not the healthiest and you shouldn't eat there regularly, they can also afford to improve food quality, service, and the way their stores are managed and workers are treated. Nevertheless, McDonald's does provide an important service and even jobs for tens of thousands of people - especially those frequently turned away by other employers. McDonald's should improve and obesity should be addressed through a combination of consumer choices and public policy, but calling for the abolition of McDonald's is completely absurd and won't do anything to solve the obesity epidemic.

Single Payer destroys an entire industry - private health insurance. The seizure of one fast food place does not destroy an entire industry.
