Do you think they are right or just being inappropriately aggressive in defense of Trump?

It'd be like if Bush, on September 12th, 2001, stated  "Boy, that Rudy Guliani is a real SoB, ain't he?"

It was unnecessary and unhelpful.

No, plain and simple. I've followed her career for years, since she unseated an incumbent who was believed to be entrenched for life. She's someone who actually works for the people and actually goes out and works. Trump is nowhere near her level in any respect.

No. Not by any standard.

It's kinda funny to watch how triggered Trump gets at criticism.

Why would the attacks on the Mayor of San Juan be anywhere near appropriate?

I've read some statements of locals that are worse than Trump's but it doesn't help that he said sh**t, yeah.

By every measure. I'd love to see these right-wing snowflakes do what Mayor Cruz has been doing, personally wading out in filth and s**t to help disaster relief efforts.

You mean the striking Puerto Rican truckers who are refusing to work and want to make the island "suffer as they have" (one's very own words)? Yeah, eff them.

Only the usual suspects would think Trump totally justified in attacking someone exasperated with the slow pace of federal help for a devastated island.

The statements might be shrill and over the top, but should they be true...

Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz may know something that people not in Puerto Rico don't know.

Trump's attacks are entirely inappropriate. At the same time, this is a very left wing figure so what she says should also be taken in that context. It might be like getting Ted Cruz's take on an Obama era Texas disaster.

There was nothing  "left wing" about her initial comments. She was merely responding to the present administration's statement that what was happening in Puerto Rico was "good news." She didn't even comment about Trump directly, but rather urged that the administration take better action rather than pushing a fake take on the humanitarian crisis on the island.

Trump, being his competent and mature self, saw this as an attack on his persona, so he decided to have an overnight Twitter tantrum, and that's how it started.

It would be nice if Trump could be the bigger person just once.  But was there need for this mayor to use her own bully pulpit to rant on Trump?

She didn't rant on Trump. She ranted about how Trump's administration was characterizing the crisis.

There was a need for Mayor Cruz to raise awareness among the American public about her people's plight. Trump was going around telling everyone the situation was under control and that he was doing an A plus job. So yes, the mayor needed to point out that Trump's characterization of the situation was a lie.
