Mitt Romney.

I do quite like McCain, but I question his judgment sometimes - seems a bit erratic - and he's a huge warmonger. Romney scores points for Romneycare and I think he would be decent enough - easily the best GOP president since Bush Senior - the bar is incredibly low though.

Lol in 2012 Romney was a man who was going to put black people ("ya'll") back into slavery, a man who LITERALLY declared World War III on women, murdered his employees via his cancer gun, and harvested on the souls of poor people.

Now he's "decent enough."

Just lmao!
Amazing strawmen. Nobody talked about Romney like that on here and certainly not me. I always thought he was a pretty decent guy, I just happen to disagree with him on most issues.

Lol what?

In 2012, Romney was the devil. Why are you rewriting history?

Here is Joe Biden claiming Romney is gonna put ya'll (black people) back in chains: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7Q1I6PIIuY

In fact, Obama went so hard on Romney that it even made some Democrats say "Dude, chill."

http://www.politico.com/story/2011/08/obama-plan-destroy-romney-060921

Then you have Harry Reid who literally lied about Romney's taxes on the Senate floor, and years later refusing to apologize.

The craziest example? How Democrats ripped Romney apart for his statements on Russia. They literally said he wasn't qualified or ready to be President; they said he had a "Cold war mind warp;" they said he gets his foreign policy from Rocky IV; in a debate Obama said "the 1980s called - they want their foreign policy back;" it goes on and on and on. Now in 2016 after they lost Russia is now the number 1 enemy!!!!! No shame, no shame at all!

I remember forums all over (not just this one) that were left leaning that just ripped Romney apart. Now all of a sudden Romney was a fine man they just had "disagreements" with.

Every Democrat I have talked to now says Romney was a nice guy they just disagreed with on policy. EVERY one.

It's because Hillary's entire GE strategy was based on courting republicans. She constantly rehabilitated the likes of Ryan & Romney on the campaign trail.

This wonderful man....

If only all these Democrats clamoring for him here had voted for him in 2012... Smiley

He wasn't the best option we had that year, but he was far from a bad option. If the Republican Party was a Romney party, I probably would even switch sides. I'd take him over the cancer-like trump 5 times a day for the rest of my life.

Aaaand here it is again. Another Democrat saying he thinks Romney was a good option.

Speaking of cancer, in 2012 Democrats accused Romney of literally causing one of his employees to die from cancer.

But of course, if you guys pretend that never happened then did it really happen?

I think it's possible to believe that Romney would be better than having Trump in the White House, and that he is a 'a decent family man' (to quote McCain about Obama) whilst also believing that he sold out himself out to the right in 2008 and 2012 to win the nomination (self-deportation, gay marriage amendment, defending planned parenthood etc) and that he also had a pretty skewered view of capitalism, and how the Economy should run.

It's perfectly fair to attack him over that, and it's perfectly think that someone is a 'good person' whilst still holding reactionary and outdated social views

And that is fine. The attacks against McCain weren't that nasty (they took their anger out on Palin instead lol).

But that's not what happened in 2012. Not even remotely close. In 2012, Romney was a racist, sexist, evil, elitist (this is a fair criticism) who wasn't ready to be President because he said Russia was a threat.

Bill Maher recognized this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ul2OuvPOQE. It's one of the reasons the attacks against Trump were so ineffective - you guys said Romney was declaring a war on women because he said "binders full of women" so when a perhaps-sexist candidate does come no one cares anymore.

This is so true, the media and the democrats have reached the point where a large section of the population won't believe what they say, true or false, due to decades of this line of attacks on politicians.

I give Bill Maher credit for recognizing this. A lot of Democrats are trying to rewrite history about how they treated Romney. You have that clown Obama for example saying the 2012 election was a mere policy dispute lol.

Bill Maher admits they went too far on Romney and it had an effect on the 2016 race.

All have their share of imperfections but I would take McCain. He's the only one I voted for without the slightest bit of reservation.

No we said that Romney was declaring war on women because he wanted to defund planned parenthood, repeal roe v wade, refused to criticize Rush Limbaugh idiotic comments. His 'binders' gaffe provided a media friendly soundbite; in the same way McCain's 'the fundamentals are strong comment did'.

Romney was a sh**t politician who ran a sh**t campaign, and got hit by the Obama campaign for it. Kerry was a sh**t politician who ran a sh**t campaign, and got hit by the Bush campaign for it.

Neither the democrats or the republicans have a monopoly on using effective and negative campaigns

The difference is Republicans admit we were brutal on Kerry.

Democrats are trying to rewrite history. Remember, the "When they go low, we go high!" lie didn't come out of a Republican's mouth.

McCain is way too hawkish for me, and I don't want to deal with Trump's BS for another 4 years, no matter what party he was. I'd have to go with "My dog is on the roof" Mitt Romney.

I didn't. Most people on here did not. Sure there were nasty attacks on Romney as there are against any major presidential candidate. But what you are saying is the equivalent of me grouping all republicans together with the moronic white nationalists who constantly claimed that Obama was a muslim/fascist/socialist/atheist/kenyan/etc.

I love watching history being rewritten in real time lol. Leftists are good at that so I give them credit. They always pretend their previous positions never existed.

And now you're comparing them to the fringe when it the 2012 Democratic nominee/President was doing it himself.
