Eh, screw it: I'll accept the nominations for my candidacy as Chair.

So, uh, I guess we're right back in #LaborInDisarray. Third Place in the Presidential Election, lost the house, and on a cliffhanger in the Lincoln Senate Race.

Except that - at least under the duration of my tenure - we won everything within reason. I came into the role of Chair beginning on Friday:

  • We knew realistically we couldn't win the presidential, so many of us (including our nominee) decided to opt out of participation in the final round and instead push Lumine into it. Mission Accomplished.
  • Sadly, we did only have 4 candidates for House and I did not arrive in time to recruit a fifth one, but all of our candidates won their seats. Mission Accomplished.
  • Our ally Siren won a very comfortable Socialist Majority in Fremont. Mission Accomplished.
  • We swept the elections and won all targeted offices in Lincoln. Mission Accomplished.
  • And I am very confident that we will also seal the deal on 20RP12's re-election to the Senate in Lincoln. Mission Will Be Accomplished.

All in all, we made the best of a bad situation this weekend and won in every way in which we could. Don't worry: absolute victories are forthcoming!

Wulfric's Deeply Disturbing and Blatantly Biased comments notwithstanding, I look forward to finishing this convention in the coming days and outlining the beginnings of a Glorious Vision for the Labor Party, to continue sporting victories and pushing back against the Personality Cultists and Demagogues as a united front!

Oh, so you're not even going to try to formulate a response? I'll just take that as you admitting I'm right. And my first paragraph can be effectively summarized as: Pushing Lumine into second place served no purpose. Lumine doesn't agree with you politically, and wasn't going to win regardless.

Wulfric, I know you're dazed and confused right now, but please keep it together. Read carefully. Even though you're attacking me right now, I'll always be grateful to you for voting for this socialist to be your President.

At least two of those scenarios are ridiculous.

Or maybe...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYtjpIwamos

Anyway, Wulfric, as a fellow Socialist, you either need to join the Labor Party or leave us be - very rude otherwise to be stringing us on!

[BYL] We'll now open up discussion for any potential revisions to our by-laws (which have certainly gotten bigger over the years!).

Here is the current version of the by-laws:

ARTICLE V. VOTING
Section 1. All members of the Labor Party who were registered with the Census Bureau as such at least 7 days before the opening of the Convention are eligible to vote in primary elections and elections for Chair and Deputy Chair. The seven day registration requirement does not apply to persons who first registered as a citizen fewer than seven days before the opening of the Convention.

Section 2. Any elected Senator or Representative who is either (a) a registered member of the Labor Party since before the most recent election for the House of Representatives; or (b) an affiliated independent may vote in elections for Congressional Leader.

Section 3. In order to be considered an “affiliated independent” for the purposes of Section 2 of this Article, the Senator or Representative seeking that designation must publicly and explicitly pledge to support the eventual Congressional Leader of the Labor Party in the election for Speaker of the House of Representatives (if they are eligible to vote in that election) and to support the majority of the Labor program as a member of Congress. The Chair may deny an applicant the status of an “affiliated independent” at their discretion.

Section 4. Voting in primary elections, and elections for the National Committee, will proceed in the following manner:
      (a) All those being eligible to vote in the election will mark their ballot with an “X” next to the name of the candidate they wish to vote for. In primary elections for the House of Representatives, electors may vote for up to five candidates; in primary elections for regional legislature, electors may vote for up to a number of candidates equal to the number of seats for election.
      (b) If, at the expiration of the voting period, no candidate has a majority of the ballots cast, a 48 hour runoff election will be held between the two top finishers.
      (c) In the event that three or more candidates tie for first place, or two or more candidates tie for second place, then the tied candidates will all be included on the ballot and the runoff election will be by Single Transferable Vote.
      (d) A candidate may choose to have their name removed from the runoff ballot by posting their explicit intention to concede in the thread where the election is being held. If the concession is posted after the commencement of the runoff, all preferences for that candidate will be discounted.
      (d) If only two candidates qualify for the runoff, the manner of voting will be the same as prescribed by clause (a).

ARTICLE VI. EXPULSION
Section 1. Members whose actions are judged inappropriate or unbecoming to the party may be expelled by a majority of voting membership at the motion of two persons being eligible to vote in party elections under Article V.1 of these bylaws.
