Wolf Blitzer: "and we can project that with 466 Electoral Votes, Senator Joe Biden of Delaware will be elected the 43rd President of the United States while Senator John Edwards of North Carolina has been elected the 46th Vice President of the United States. A victory 16 years in the making, Joe Biden has been elected President."

Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE)/Sen. John Edwards (D-NC): 466/56.7%
SOS Newt Gingrich (R-GA)/Fmr Gov. Don Sundquist (R-TN)

You may be asking how we got to this point and what lies ahead. Well, everyone buckle up, for this is the story of a New America with its many twist and turns. Be prepared to watch as America makes it's choices over the last 36 years of politics.

1988: The year of the boring candidates

In 1988, The presidency of Ronald Regan had ended and the country was in question as to who would be the next President. Of course, many polls showed then Vice President George HW Bush to be the likely Republican Nominee while the question of who would be of who would the Democrat's choice was still unknown. However, on January 3rd, it was revealed that George Bush had gotten a stroke and thus needed to drop out to remain healthy. Because of this, Bob Dole became the front-runner and won several key primary states. By the end of the 1988 Republican primaries, Bob Dole, Jack Kemp and Pat Robertson were the clear winners of multiple states, with Dole becoming the Republican Nominee:

Bob Dole
Jack Kemp
Pat Robertson

After winning the Nomination, Dole named former Tennessee Senator Howard Baker as his Running Mate. Almost immediately, Micheal Dukakis, Massachusetts governor at the time and the Democratic Nominee, had a large lead of 8 points over Dole in the polls. While both suffered from monumental problems in a great many things, Dukakis still maintained his lead going into the debates.

After the first debate, Micheal Dukakis was considered the winner as he talked a strong isolationist message and thus, Dole suffered badly in the following days. However, there was surprising support for Third Party Candidate Donald J. Trump, whom was running under his own created party, the True Compromise Party or TCP with his running mate being  Ron Paul of Texas. At one point from September 3rd-September 15th, Trump lead Dukakis and Dole in the polls by a few points and even appeared in the second and third debate while Ron Paul appeared in the Vice Presidential Debate. Despite this, They were behind both major party candidates in the polls for the rest of the race but on Election night, Dukakis would win in a landslide as he carried North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Arizona by a slim margin, though many agreed that Trump's candidacy might have changed things a bit.

Gov. Micheal Dukakis (D-MA)/Sen. Lloyd Bentsen (D-TX): 375/41.4%
Sen. Bob Dole (R-KS)/Sen. Howard Baker (R-TN): 163/ 40.1%
Mr. Donald J. Trump (TCP-NY)/Rep. Ron Paul (TCP-TX): 18.5%

1992: The Bush Strikes Back

Almost immediately after being inaugurated as the 41st President of the United States, President Dukakis faced a severe economic recession and his policy on weakening the military wasn't exactly popular as well as his policy of isolationism from the Middle East making many feel as if he was being too cowardly. In 1990, The midterm elections for the senate were held and Dukakis had suffered massively from his underperformance in the economy and the military. Thus, on Election Night in 1990, The people voted for the Republicans in a large majority with only a few states remaining in Democratic Hands:

Following the loss in the midterms, Dukakis had a major primary challenge from Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton and Senator of New York Daniel Patrick Moynihan for the Nomination. A though race, the three would continuously fight though Moynihan would drop out after a near heart attack when fighting for Ohio. After this, it became a two way race between him and Governor Clinton. The race was extremely close with Clinton winning the most states but the President winning the most delegates. Following the victory, Many realized that Dukakis had just been primaried and against the Republican Nominee, Dukakis was projected to not be able to do well.

For the Republicans, it was a simple race between Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and former Vice President George H.W. Bush of Texas, with New York Senator Al D'Amato being a tiny blip on the radar. Bush, who was forced to drop out of the 1988 race due to a stroke, had recovered by this time and was hoping to win the primary. While it was continuously stated that Bush would win, Alexander gave him a large challenge especially after Alexander's surprise win in New Hampshire. After the Texas Primary, however, the race was finished and Lamar Alexander would drop out on May 13th, 1992. At the Republican National Convention, Bush declared that Lamar Alexander would be his running mate.

President Dukakis
Governor Clinton
Senator Moynihan

Former Vice President Bush
Former Governor Lamar Alexander
Senator D'Amato

Following the primaries, President Dukakis faced the same challenges he did in '88 except now, he had to face someone who was brilliant and finding the weakness of a candidate and exploiting it. Using the President's low approval ratings and horrible performances on the Economy and the International stage, Bush trounced Dukakis in the polls within a week of the General Election starting. This was followed by the debates in which Bush was able to transfer his ability to speak and talk to people better than Dukakis' cold and off putting answers. By Election Night, Dukakis was behind Bush by 16 points and lost in a massive landslide of 506-32, this transferring into a major victory by the Republicans in Congress as well. By 11 PM, the Election was called and George Bush was elected the 42nd President of the United States. President Dukakis congratulated Bush and stated that while he felt great pain, It was one of the proudest events in his life to serve as President.

Fmr. VP George HW Bush (R-TX)/Fmr. Governor Lamar Alexander (R-TN): 506/54.2%
Pres. Michael Dukakis (D-MA)/VP Lloyd Bentsen (D-TX): 32/41.3%
