10:00 PM EST

It is 10:00 PM on the east coast, and we have some new poll closings. You know what that means: more calls!

No shockers here; ANN can project that the President has won the states of Iowa and Utah. These are the states that gave him the biggest margin of victory in 2052.

However, Nevada and Montana are too close to call. On the Senatorial side, Republican Iowa Senator Pat Grassley has won re-election tonight. In Montana, one-term Senator Yancy Montgomery has chosen to retire, and the race between Montana State Treasurer Bill Tennessee and Lt. Governor Lachlan Duggan is too close to call.

For states that we have yet to call, we have a few updates. President Richardson has won the state of Wisconsin, while Governor Byrd has won the state of Louisiana.

Governor Anna Byrd (D-WV)/Rep. Dan Kushner (D-CA): 202 EVs
President Derek Richardson (R-SC)/Vice President Timothy Tang (R-WA): 153 EVs
278 to win

Democrats: 51 Seats
Republicans: 40 Seats

This is an interesting turn of events. Governor Byrd has broken 200 EVs, and seems to be gaining ground in the Old South while losing the Midwest. She’s also behind in Texas. If she wins California and Alaska, plus the remaining Southern states that aren’t Texas, she reaches 280 electoral votes, enough to win the Presidency.

But take a look at this. We know that if she wins Cali, it’s over. But if she loses California, loses Texas, loses the Midwest, and wins the Old South, she has 227 electoral votes while the President would have 276. That’s a very generous set of assumptions for the President, so let’s give Byrd Nevada, a state she’s expected to win. 234 to 276, and it all comes down to the New West.

Just barely. One of those states would be enough for Richardson to win.

Fine. Michigan’s more Democratic than Pennsylvania, and the Detroit area hasn’t reported yet, so I’ll give it to her. 249 to 261, it comes down to the New West, dang it I want to talk about this!

The New West consists of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and South Dakota. Except for Colorado, BrownRoads is responsible for these states becoming less rural and thus, more Democratic. A few people assumed the region to just be gone for the GOP after the 2044 election, but the President has been heavily contesting the region. This is, after all, the first election since 2040 that lacks a Democratic nominee from there for either President or Vice-President. Montana, South Dakota, Idaho, and Colorado all have Republican-held Senate races that could determine the future of the Senate. Tonight we find out the political future of the region, and it could be responsible for the whole election!

Thanks for the lowdown. Byrd’s already won Wyoming, but it’s the most urban of the New West states. Everything else is gonna be a nail biter. And to think, when we were young these states were only close in abject landslides!

Who's up in the Oregon Senate election?

It's a Republican incumbent easily winning re-election.

SPEAKING OF WHICH!!

10:10 PM

We have a pair of calls to make! Michigan has gone for President Richardson, while Pennsylvania has gone for Governor Byrd.

...what.

Governor Anna Byrd (D-WV)/Rep. Dan Kushner (D-CA): 218 EVs
President Derek Richardson (R-SC)/Vice President Timothy Tang (R-WA): 168 EVs
278 to win

Well, this is... interesting. I think it’s safe to say nobody saw this coming.

Yeah, this hasn’t happened in 80 years. Michigan always votes to the left of Pennsylvania! I’m in shock right now.

Let’s break this down. Both these states went for President Richardson four years ago, and both are known to be swing states. In Michigan, it looks like the President kept his margins in the Detroit suburbs and rural areas, and Byrd couldn’t get turnout in Detroit high enough to compensate.

I completely get Michigan. But Pennsylvania?!

Richardson did what he had to do in the Philly suburbs, but Byrd got a very high turnout in Philly, flipped the Pittsburgh suburbs, and is pulling incredible margins in Western Pennsylvania...

....ooohh. Appalachia. The Appalachian part of Pennsylvania has been the least Democratic part of the region, keeping Pennsylvania competitive even as states like Ohio and Kentucky became Safe Democratic states. But Byrd herself is Governor of the most Appalachian state in the union, West Virginia. That must have jacked up the Democratic turnout in the west.

Nice catch. There’s going to be heads rolling in Pennsylvania polling outlets after tonight. They haven’t messed up this much since Sherrod Brown was still a Senator.

Let’s lighten things up with a call that we all expected: Oklahoma Senator Maxwell Christie has won re-election, holding the seat for the Democratic Party.

Booo!!

Democrats: 52 Seats
Republicans: 40 Seats

Just one more win, or the Presidency, and the Democrats will retake the Senate. Speaking of which, we can also project that the Democratic Party will maintain control of the House of Representatives, though the exact numbers are still fuzzy.

So much for responsible government!

I am so happy right now!

Yup! Brown/Harris wins crushing victories in 2020 and 2024, Harris is elected in her own right in 2028 by a commanding (if smaller) margin, and links to every other election (2032 through 2052) is in the OP.

This is something I've hinted at but never outright stated, but may as well clear that up here.

10:30 PM EST

Any news on Texas?

Sadly, no. The state is taking forever to report everything, and lines are still long. It looks like Richardson is doing what he needs to do in the suburbs to keep the state, but that’s just a wild guess. The fact that it hasn’t been called should be terrifying for the President though. If he loses Texas, he has to win very nearly everything else to hold onto the White House, and that includes sweeping the rest of the Old South. If Byrd wins Texas, Tennessee, and Missouri, it’s over.

My home state would never do something so heinous!

We do, however, have a Senate call to make. In Alabama, Democrat Belle Blitz has defeated Senator Marth Lesse. This gives Democrats 53 Senate seats, which means that no matter what happens at the top of the ticket, Democrats will control the United States Senate

NNNOOOOO!!!

Heh heh heh, and now you look foolish on national TV.

When has he ever not looked foolish?

Democrats: 53 Seats
Republicans: 40 Seats

We’re also not seeing anything conclusive in the New West or Nevada. At least I know I’ll have the Chairmanship of the Budget Committee, but this might still be a long night. By the way, note to self: get Serrano to put Senator-elect McCarthy in the Budget Committee with me. It’ll be great to work with Peebs again!

10:45 PM EST

We have another call to make! The state of Tennessee has gone to Governor Anna Byrd. I repeat, Governor Byrd has won Tennessee and its eleven electoral votes.

You know what I just realized? Tennessee has the exact same number of electoral votes as it had when I was born.

Yeah, it’s pretty consistent that way. The state’s eastern region’s grown faster than its western region, but it’s still a nice, medium-sized state.

Is any other state like that?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Governor Anna Byrd (D-WV)/Rep. Dan Kushner (D-CA): 229 EVs
President Derek Richardson (R-SC)/Vice President Timothy Tang (R-WA): 168 EVs
278 to win

Well, we’re officially at the point where the President absolutely NEEDS to win California if he wants to be re-elected. If Byrd wins California now, she hits exactly 278 electoral votes.

C’mon Golden State! Do the right thing for the second time ever!

I just got confirmation from Senator-elect McCarthy and Senate Majority Leader Serrano that, yes, she will be in Budget with me. HYES!!

Didn’t you two have a pact that if you both ran for President you’d settle it with games of Mario Party?

Yeah, we did. We probably would have done it, too, but my campaign in 2044 went absolutely nowhere and she never ran for President.

By the way, Tennessee’s Senate race is still too close to call.

Sorry this took so long! This is back from the dead now, and I do intend to actually finish a TL for once. Just as a reminder, Purple is Taylor Weiss aka DFW, Brown is TedBessell, and Teal is me.

11:00 PM EST

It’s 11PM on the East Coast, and we have some new poll closings!

Finally!

Okay! President Richardson has won the states of Washington and Oregon. Absolutely no surprise there, both are very Republican states. President Richardson has also won Hawaii. It was a Smith state, but Hawaii loves its incumbents! Also, no Democrat has ever won without Hawaii, so this is a good omen for us!

Moving on to Idaho, we can only say that it is too close to call. And in California...

C’mon...

Come on.....

It’s too close to call.

How anti-climatic!

We really should have expected this. On the Senatorial side, Oregon Senator Tim Krazen has defeated his Democratic challenger. The Senate race in Idaho between Congressmen Calvin Hartley and Ulysses Taft is too close to call.

Hartley is the Democrat, Taft is the Republican. Just in case anyone needed clarification.

Governor Anna Byrd (D-WV)/Rep. Dan Kushner (D-CA): 229 EVs
President Derek Richardson (R-SC)/Vice President Timothy Tang (R-WA): 188 EVs
278 to win

Democrats: 53 Seats
Republicans: 41 Seats

With that, we’ve at least seen a poll closing in every state that isn’t Alaska! And now we wait...

Alaska is a Democratic state, but only kinda sorta. Wouldn’t it be crazy if everything came down to it?

Please don’t jynx it.

Rough population per state, calculated through some crazy-ass math that I will explain if asked.

These make no sense.
