Not the kind of retirement we're looking for. Who's on the bench here?

Perhaps she's running for governor? Still, that came out of nowhere. Whew.

Weird.  After winning it last year and in a Trump midterm, she would've held on easily.

lmao at krazen though

Actually, this is probably good for Democrats tbh.  2018 will likely be a Democratic wave year and Shea-Porter is a pretty weak incumbent.  Pappas would likely hold this seat pretty easily, but even if he doesn't run, we'll likely hold it.  Shea-Porter did us a solid by waiting until a good Democratic cycle to retire, this seat could've definitely gone Republican in 2016.

is there any chance Kelly Ayotte runs here? I know it would be a step down from the Senate, but may be her quickest and easiest way back into public office if she wants to return to that.

But she was finally going to win in a midterm!

There must be health and/or personal reasons behind this.

Well, this is certainly the cycle for Dem incumbents in swing districts to retire rather than in a midterm under a Dem President.  A younger, more politically astute Dem may actually be able to hold the seat for more than one term.  Had folks like Dennis Moore, Brian Baird, Bart Stupak, and David Obey retired in 2006/2008 rather than 2010, Dems probably would have held their seats rather than lost them.

She doesn't live in the district, I don't think.

Pappas, Volinsky, Stehany Shaheen would all be great candidates who would hold this in a Trump midterm.

lol democrats will easily win this district unless they nominate a garbage candidate. New Hampshire is one of the swingiest states and it's going to be a very favorable national environment for dems.

I think Ayotte lives in Nashua, which is in NH-2, but who knows.

Shea-Porter always was too liberal for anywhere in the district outside of the Portsmouth area.
