IT'S V-K DAY! (Victory in Korea)

At last, North Korea has surrendered and made concessions to all six allied countries.  With this treaty, we begin the process of reconstruction and usher in a new era of diplomacy in the Pacific.  It is with great pride that I bring this agreement to the floor.

(Admittedly I already knew about the story behind the photo; I just used it because it's easily recognized.)

But I changed the photo. Smiley

Fantastic that we have an agreement drafted already. The biggest thing here I would change is how that $1.5 billion donation is divvied up. While all parties have certainly been harmed in the conflict, I would rather see more of that aid go towards both North and South Korea, who have been disproportionately affected far more than China has. I'll propose the following amendment on that note:

It's also worth noting that China provided significantly more soldiers than we did, was actively involved in combat for longer, and also suffered major losses in some of the more recent battles of the war.

Edit: Also North Korea is receiving aid from the China agreement. So this donation isn't the only source.

I am not sure if it is possible to amend a treaty. Granted you cannot amend a judicial appointment or a cabinet appointment so perhaps that is pointless comparison, but the other instances of Advice and consent are applied in the form of an up or down vote.

Right, but China is China and has double the amount of our troops, not to mention far more people than the other three nations combined. China is also guaranteed $450 billion in restitution payments already per the GM. They're in a much better position to recover from their losses over the long term than the two Koreas, so I would rather spend the resources we're willing to hand out in a more effective manner.

Yeah, I'm not sure if I can deem the amendment friendly (or entertain it as an amendment at all) because this is a treaty, so all terms, I assume, are final.

After discussing with China, they're willing to agree with Spiral's proposed amendment as long as the donation amount changes, which I proposed above (in red).

Which I personally think works out fine since it's still more aid going towards the countries that need it most.

So if Scott wants to do his thing, there it is Tongue

Is there any reason for us to think North Korea will be able to pay the reparations? That part reminds me of the Treaty of Versailles, which was a monumental fail.

Is there any reason for us to think North Korea will be able to pay the reparations? That part reminds me of the Treaty of Versailles, which was a monumental fail.

North Korea will Gain
-Removal of all sanctions currently placed on North Korea by South Korea.
-South Korea will work with North Korea to develop and maintain a thriving energy and manufacturing industry .
-South Korea will Subsidize North Koran manufacturing to start up firms succeed.
-South Korea agrees to bilateral free trade with North Korea.
-Atlasia agrees to not block IMF/World Bank/WTO assistance.
-China and South Korea will support  Pak Pong-ju as leader of North Korea.

On top of this, most of the countries worked out financing payments for reparations, it's not going to be due upfront. We are also assisting them with repairs to their infrastructure and providing aid to their civilians. Given what North Korea is getting out of the deals and the time they are being given to make payments, there would seriously have to be something wrong for them not to be able to do so.

I support this resolution. We did not go to North Korea for regime change; to do so would have been destabilizing and unpredictable. We've done what we planned on doing in North Korea, and there is no reason for us to stay there any longer.

The question is now on the table.  Senators, please vote Aye, Nay, or Abstain.

This bill has enough votes to pass.  Senators have 24 hours to change their vote.
