There is a lot of wishful thinking in this thread. Cruz has horrible relations with the Senators and he would struggle with the likes of Murkowski and Collins just like Trump.

I doubt Kennedy would be more willing to retire.

We'd probably have John Bolton as Secretary of State and Tom Cotton as Secretary of Defense.

So......not much better IMO.

Cruz is more competent, but his lack of pragmatism and his utter zealotry scares me even more than Trump could.

Cruz is all about small government.  Trump is all about MAGA.

There is more in it for the average citizen in MAGA, when you really think about it.

Trump is way better than ted cruz, way way better.

Lyin' Ted will bring ridiculous executive actions against abortion, homosexuals, some of which the court will strike down. His tax plan is even more ridiculous, flat taxes & extreme low taxes, like half of Trump's tax rate or something. He would massively cut Medicaid, Medicare, SS & raise the retirement age. Entitlements will all be cut.

Then he would bomb Syria even more (carpet bombing??), would strike down the Iran Deal, Paris Climate Change agreement & would take US into an international conflict with the Muslim world by taking the embassy into the disputed Jerusalem. He is an insane lunatic bigot & the Muslim ban was originally his idea (he introduced such a bill).

It would be a disaster, but he'd at least have the basic fitness to serve and be vaguely competent. Trump's policies and legislative failures but without his personal failures.

He also proposed having police "patrol" muslim neighborhoods.

That scares me far more than any silly travel ban. If I had to pick between Trump and Cruz I would pick Trump in a heartbeat anytime.

- No Russia saga
- You'd hear about Cruz's conservatism and not about the "alt-right"

"The Resistance" would not exist. There'd be few protests, no Women's March, and little demand to overturn the election via the electoral college.

Those would probably still exist. Even Kasich is too ''far-right'' for the demented SJW crowd.

Kasich is very conservative to be fair, he just has moderate-sounding rhetoric

And every remotely prominent Democrat gets turned into a far left socialist by the Fox News crowd. Your point?

He'd be more stable than Trump and less of a clown, but same incompetence when it comes to work with congress.

I think he'd probably revolutionize and modernize the fireside chat and replace it with "Netflix and Chill with President Ted."

Anyways, shouldn't this be in the what-ifs section?

Much more effort to impose the "Christian" part of the right-wing dream of a Christian and Corporate State.

He's an obnoxious SOB, so he would grate on liberal sensibilities, if in different ways.

Many would be talking about whether Trump would be better.

History would have been made since Ted Cruz would have been the first Hispanic president.

A lot of Freedom Caucus/Tea Party congressmen and senators would be in the Cabinet or Supreme Court. Ted Cruz would be able to get more done with Congress. Evan McMullin wouldn't've run.
