Pretty good politics for me personally, but he has some shady personal stuff in his background.

Well, he suffered from alcoholism but got his act together. That makes me respect him even more.

HP.

The state would be better off if Matt Gonzales had just won 2003.

I was referring to the affair with his campaign manager's wife during his time as SF mayor. I think that's despicable, personally. I try my best to separate candidates' personal lives from their political positions, which is why he's my preferred candidate in the race, but it makes me queasy to endorse an adulterer.

I'm glad he got his alcoholism under control; that's an honest to goodness demon and I respect the heck out of anyone who does that.

Also, he is just unabashedly trying to climb the political latter. He didn't become mayor because he wanted to help SF. He did to become lt. governor to become governor to become president.

Who isn't?

He's the antidote for Trumpism. The Democrats would be smart to elevate him in the party.

I like him and his wife made a great documentary on sexism in Hollywood.

He has some demons in his closet but seems to have made amends for that unlike our president.

Horrible trash only slightly better than a few of his potential competition. I'd only vote for Newsom v. Villariagosa or any Republican.

Epitomizes everything wrong with the California Democratic Party (and the national party's current trends at a broader level). The fact that he's from the "New Economy" (*vomit*) SF Bay Area, in and of itself, is ample evidence of his awfulness - and I say that as a long-time SF Bay Area resident.

This DLC member (up until they stopped existing) is a HP, but I guess there are bigger HPs in the California Democratic party.

I really hope that there's a Democrat vs. Democrat runoff for California Governor so there's an option to vote for besides him. I'd only vote for him over a Republican (I'd also support if he ran for Senate against Feinstein but that's not looking likely.)
