The last Democrat to win MS was Carter in 1976. His winning margin then was just under 2%. I'd expect a map similar to that one for the next Democrat to win MS.

In 2020?  Would have to be something 1912ish with a SoCon 3rd party winning counties so that the Dem could win with their ~40% statewide PV floor.

it is probably more like 45 at the federal level. obama got 43 in 12

That's the ceiling right now, not the floor, and it's clear after 2016 that Obama level black turnout can't be counted on going forward.  I do think they could start getting to 42-43 more regularly with time.

No.  Carter lost badly in in populated Hinds County, which now votes overwhelmingly Democratic, while handily carrying rural Northeast MS, now uber-Trump country.  

In any case, Mississippi is not voting Democratic in 2020.
