How, if at all, would Romney supporting the auto bailout have affected 2012?

Not sure how much changes, maybe Florida goes to Romney since it was so close?

Why Florida and not one of the rust belt states?

Just going off of PV totals by state, and Florida was much closer than any of the rust belt states. Just less than 75K votes would've made it Republican

Ah, I see. However, I wonder if Romney's opposition to the auto bailout was why he did so much worse in the rust belt than he did in Florida.

Romney flips Michigan and Ohio, but ultimately his loss in Florida (on a recount) is what sinks him.

Why would he flip Michigan? I agree with you on Ohio, but even in 2012, New Hampshire, Nevada, Colorado, and even Wisconsin and Pennsylvania would go Republican before Michigan.

The auto bailout alone was not the problem. The problem was the bailout in the context of a larger narrative that painted him as out of touch with working class Americans.

There was also Romney's 47 % comment as well as Hurricane Sandy that gave the advantage to Obama in 2012.

Obama still wins because no one trusted Mitt Romney.
