Honduras goes to the polls on November 26th for Presidential and Congressional Elections. The Presidential Election is single round winner takes all.

President Juan Orlando Hernández of the Partido Nacional is running for a second term.

Salvador Nasralla is the candidate of the Partido Libertad y Refundación (Libre) and of the Partido Innovación y Unidad Social Demócrata (PINU-SD). Libre was formed in 2011 by supporters of the Liberal Party turned leftist  President Manuel Zelaya who had been ousted from power two years earlier in 2009. The two parties are running an electoral pact called Alianza de Oposicion Contra la Dictadura.

Nasralla was previously the Presidential candidate of the Anti-Corruption Party in 2014 when he finished in fourth place. He is also a major TV personality and producer, a former Pepsi Honduras CEO, a former Engineering professor and a former journalist.  He is presently polling in second place.

The other major party candidate is Luis Orlando Zelaya of the Partido Libera.

Preliminary results are looking good for Nasralla. There was a massive delay (we should have already known who won by now) and lots of people (in the opposition) have been accusing the TSE of cooking the books.

Remaining votes are apparently from pro-Nasralla areas, so most observers (except the Nationalists ofc) are projecting a Nasralla victory.

72.92% of votes counted
43,0 vs 41,5.

The margin gets thinner...

The source of a fair amount of these votes seems to be JOH' s rear end.

Update: Vote count halted on Friday. Tribunal says it will hand count the remaining votes (roughly 6%).

Is the Tribunal influenced by the president in any way?

Hi MB, that is the contention of the opposition candidate, Nasralla and his supporters. Election observers are also fretting over the vote count, particuarly multiple delays. My opinion: It's so close, and there's enough suspicion about the delays and Hernandez's potential influence over the results, that it's headed for a recount.

Update: Opposition candidate Nasralla has called for new elections (presidential only) under the auspices of an international tribunal.

Nasralla has called for peaceful protests. In another development, tribunal looking to expand recount beyond a handful of ballots that remain.
