Republicans fight day and night to allow gay people to be turned away from businesses, but if a person who chooses a certain profession is discriminated against (cop), its the end of the world. Neither group should have to worry about being denied service, but it is hypocrisy to praise one and denounce the other.

Not sure if I would say that they "praise" it, but they sure create all these fing ignorant excuses to just allow it to continue (let the market deal with it, etc).
An any case, I agree with you that it definitely falls under "hypocrisy."

The Supreme Court already decided the rights of persons to be served in restaurants in Katzenbach v. McClung

As to the cake bakers:  Do business owners have the right to refuse to produce items that make statements their consciences cannot abide?  If not, would a flag-maker be obligated to make Nazi flags?  Would a signmaker be obliged to print signs for an alt-right rally?  This isn't Ollie's BBQ or the Pickrick Restaurant where the establishment refused to serve blacks, period.

The cake baker's business is not a public accomodation, as a restaurant is.  If they won't bake a cake for someone because they're gay, that's one thing.  If they'll bake a cake for someone who's gay, but not create cakes with certain content, is that not a different issue?  If they can't say "no" to a gay wedding cake, how can they say "no" to an alt-right event?  That's a serious question, and because you sympathize with one and not the other isn't a principled answer to a question of principle.

Would the Republicans have been okay with this if the officers were gay Muslims?

Of course not.

Serving someone a hamburger whose lifestyle they would not sign off on does not cause a moral or ethical conflict.  It's a morally neutral act.

I think you recognize that this is not the issue.

Or hiring someone of a different sect or lifestyle?

It was his right to not serve the police officers and it was Whataburger's right to fire him.

The issue of the cake-bakers is not about hiring, and folks here know it.

It is not hypocritical since in this case it was an employee who refused to serve someone, not the owner of the restaurant and in this case since this is a chain restaurant and not some  restaurant which is only located in one or two towns they shouldn't be allowed to refuse people service either .

Lastly and most important in the case of the baker who refused to bake the gay cake , it was the GOVERNMENT that punished him for those actions , here it was someone who learned the consequences from their boss. The equivalent of this situation to the one of the baker would be if , due to his actions people stopped coming to his bakery and he went out of business.

LOL.
I see you are still on the "restaurant that is only located in one or two towns" bulls**t excuse/exception.

Considering that she probably has had many awful experiences with cops, she should have been reprimanded or something, not fired.

I feel like replacing the word "Cops" with literally any other word wouldn't go over nearly as well.

Putting your place of employment at risk from a national boycott because you have some ill-sourced claims of bad treatment seems like grounds for firing.

This person should be publicly shamed, just like the liberals love to do to others.
