I don't think Mike Mansfield or Hubert H. Humphrey were racists by association or "didn't care" about racism in their party just because there were racists who held sway in their party; in fact, they actively fought that element and made their party better for it.  I think you should afford me the same sensibility, but obviously I don't really give a shlt what some dude over in Maine thinks about how I chose to register at the DOT, LOL.
