I think Reagan probably still challenges H.W, but he probably loses again. albeit narrowly.


As for the general election, flip Virginia and Oklahoma to Carter and that's the map. H.W would probably do slightly worse in the South than Ford.

There is little reason to think that a former officeholder from Texas would play worse to Southern voters than a man from Grand Rapids, Michigan. With the recent assassination of a President and functionally being a blank slate, I see Bush winning.
