The denial is a coverup...either the Government is behind it, the opposition is behind, or with Malta having a relatively strong Catholic Church...maybe an upcoming expose on the church offended them, and they felt they had to silence her?

Muscat (Maltese PM) was the subject of a lot of her investigations, but I really doubt the government (or the opposition) of an EU member state would actually kill a journalist (outrageous things are happening in Hungaria and Poland, but they aren't going this far). I think it's more likely that some shady businessman or the maybe even the mafia did it (or a shady businessman with mafia ties).

Eh, Malta's been selling passports to rich Chinese (nearly all of whom have illegitimate wealth) for a while now.
