Jim Hood can keep the AG office as long as he wants it, but if he challenges for some other office it is probably gone, although it could be retained if the political environment gets more extreme than it already is and a non-some guy runs on the democratic side

The NC office, of course they can keep control of it if they run good campaigns.

If Jim Hood runs again in 2019 he will win. If he retires there's an 80-90% chance a Republican will replace him.

NCSOS, since it's a much more swing state, yes, Democrats can easily keep it.

No office in North Carolina is easily kept, especially for Democrats.

Agreed.  Jim Hood will be AG of Mississippi as long as he wants it (he's only 55, so its not unreasonable to think he could stay in the position for another decade or longer).  When he retires it will go R though.

What are the chances Jim Hoods retires by the time MS becomes competitive due to increasing black population?

That won't happen for awhile, there will be a white majority in the state until after he's long gone.

Maybe not.  Mississippi could be plurality Black by the early 2040s, when Hood would only be in his early 80s (old for a statewide official, but not unheard of).

Plus, Democrats would not NECESSARILY need MS to be plurality Black to win statewide.  It's pretty inconceivable in our current climate, but winning 20% of Whites vs. 10% gets it done by then.

If Hood tries to run for Governor, Republicans got a pick up.

You don't know North Carolina, do you. Democrats normally control most offices in NC. It wasn't until 2016 when Republican oddly won some offices.

When Elaine Marshall retires, it will be competitive but It's a toss up at worst.
