The president lying to and about Americans is always a big deal, guys.

Yes. But that's every time he opens his mouth or touches his phone. You grow numb to the horror after a while. Especially when he's practicing other far more damaging and despicable evils on a near-constant basis.

Well it shouldn't be that way. He should be held to the same standard of any other president, not given training wheels because he's so pathetic.

Rule #4 for surviving an autocracy: Be outraged.

Trump: "hey can I use your dead son as a political prop?"

Kelly: "sure, in fact, i will do a press conference backin you up bud!"

doesn't sound like the "defender of the free world" that all of the generic righties like Corker always talk about, huh?

While this never should have been politicized by Rep. Wilson, I will say that Gen. Kelly is out of touch here.  The "he knew what he signed up for" comment worked for him when his son died because both he and his son were career military.  Sgt. Johnson's widow wasn't, nor was the woman who raised him.

Not only that, but it seems painfully obvious that Trump hastily arranged to make calls because of his inaccurate swipe at both Obama and Dubya earlier that day, so the draft evader's reason for making those calls appears to have been pure politics and nothing but politics.

Today Kelly sold his soul to the jerk in the White House... and he took his dead son along for the ride. Shameful.

On top of this neither Trump nor Kelly bothered to apologize to the widow about the "misunderstanding".

BTW, Kelly lied.

I guess Acting President Kelly must be very loyal to his spokescritter Trump, although I sure don't understand why. The man is a disaster.

Yup. A true disappointment. But we should've expected it the moment he associated himself with Trump.

And as expected, the President undercuts Kelly and it is his own damn fault.

I thought this whole "issue" was just... ridiculous and wrong. It should have never been mentioned by the congressperson in the first place, and it should have never been dragged on more than that. While I know Trump has many awful ideas, I think he was really trying to do the right thing here (as advised by Kelley) and just sucks at words and empathy big league. This is a lot of why Kelley advised him not to call. Of course, Trump then made the issue worse by getting defensive and weird on Twitter, but I wish for once we had let this particular issue die.

Anyway, I thought Kelley's response was dignified and way more than what the situation called for, and hopefully it puts the whole thing to rest. It was gross.

Yep.
trump just cant let it go. He doesn't understand that as he continues to throw mud in every direction, he is dishonoring the dead soldier and further creating chaos for the grieving family.

Video proof that Kelly stood there and lied to smear the congresswoman.

The Trumpers will ignore it. They're well trained to avoid the pain of acknowledging reality. (Makes Acting President Kelly look a lot worse to me, though.)

Did any of you thing this might mean: He knew what he signed up for and he was brave to go, in spite of knowing.

I genuinely don't see anything wrong with saying he knew what he signed up for. As multiple people have pointed out, the statement highlights the bravery of this and every fallen soldier.
