I think that Abbot is currently being overrated. While yes, he won a large amount of hispanics in 2014, he is running in a trump midterm, where these voters are going to be angry. In addition, suburban voters could defect in a big enough wave. Thoughts?

I'd personally rate it at Likely R right now.

Yeah it's certainly possible. If O' Rourke is doing well against Cruz maybe the Dem nominee can leech off his success. If one of the Castro's enters the race this is Lean/Likely R.

Excuse my fuzzy math but Texas trending 9 points to the left + democrats doing 9 points better in the house polls + demographics being more favorable for democrats in 2018 makes Texas lean D at worst, but more likely titanium D.

I doubt it. The only way Abbott loses is if O'Rourke wins in a rout, which only happens if Cruz loses his primary in the Senate race.

It'd take a damn big wave to take down Abbott, but if O'Rourke is able to get a campaign off the ground and is running well enough, that might entice Joaquín into running.  In that case it'd be Lean R/Tossup.

Yes. Ted Cruz is likely in a Toss-Up race and there won't be that many O'Rourke/Abbott voters.

Uh, sorry. It's Safe R, and the Senate Race is Safe R as well. In fact, both are TITANIUM R, and are so safe that they make NH races between Democratic Women and Republican Men look competitive.

I'm sorry, but your bias is blinding you to the very real risks present in Texas, Krazen

Ah I see the coked up moron has arrived.

Look your hero Trump is crashing and burning as we speak, his presidency should be a pile of Rubble by Next November, Abbott will not win by the margin he did in 14' with this Orange buffoon as President.  If the wave is as big as it should be it should get one of the Castros in, and that'll bring this to a Lean R/Tossup Race.

The 2016 presidential results in Texas were definitely a worrying sign for Republicans in the long term, but Abbott has a high approval rating and it's still a red state. He'll be fine.

Texas is aggressively moving to the left, and not to mention, Trump is very unpopular down in Texas. Just remember in 2010 when Russ Feingold, a progressive Senator in a state that overwhelmingly went to Barack Obama, was ousted, alongside a Republican taking over the governorship.

Texas Gov is even more likely to go dem than New York Senate. That's how titanium D it is. The hispanic + asian wall is too much for the GOP to handle come 2018.

I changed my avatar to R-Texas because I feel bad for how hard it's going to go blue come 2018.

Undoubtedly, I think Putin's Puppet Drumpf has seriously ended Cruz and Abbott's career in Texas. He's tarnished the names of the GOP in that state, and hispanic turnout will undoubtedly spike because of our fascist xenophobic president.

Democrats have yet to find a strong candidate at this point and even if they do I doubt it will be within 10. Abbot is popular and Texas is still very much a Republican state.

We could put up a bag of sand for TX-Gov and it'd still destroy Greg Abbott. This state is heavily going towards the Democrats, similarly to California from 1988 to 1992.

I propose that we hold an online "funeral" for the Texas Republican Party on Atlas. It's truly the end of an era. Whoever is the most connected to Texas Politics here should lead the proceedings.

Maybe Bagel23 could do the honors? He's one of the more active Texas posters here.
