In an interview with Newsweek, Spencer — the self-appointed leader of the "alt-right," a loose movement that embraces white supremacist views and Nazi symbols — said he's not sure whether women should vote in U.S. elections."I don't necessarily think that that's a great thing," Spencer told the magazine, which quoted him in an article published Saturday. He uttered the line in the context of a conversation about his admiration for 18th-century rules that limited U.S. naturalization to white people of "good moral character."

In September 2016, he criticized Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton — a former secretary of state — by making a sweeping and accusatory statement about how women behave.
"Women should never be allowed to make foreign policy," he tweeted. "It's not that they're 'weak.' To the contrary, their vindictiveness knows no bounds."

Opposition to the 19th Amendment isn't anything new among the "alt-right" (Neo-Fascists). There are widely circulated theories that correlate women's suffrage with increased liberalization and socialization of society and the government. They reference modern voting patterns, which demonstrate a greater left-leaning orientation among women, as an example to substantiate their argument. By disenfranchising women (and racial, ethnic, and religious minorities, and even the poor) they contend that left-wing influence over government, the body politic, institutions, and culture will be dramatically curtailed.

So, seeing Richard Spencer, the self-appointed leader of the "alt-right" champion this viewpoint is 0% surprising.

Sadly, this doesn't surprise me. I know a few people who would otherwise seem like typical Republicans who hold similar views.

This.

Also, on this point, he is going to speak at the University of Florida, and Rick Scott declared a state of emergency in advance.

It will be a pretty mainstream Republican talking point in 20 years time then

The British and Americans knew something about female voting: women were more cautious and less vulnerable to the appeals of demagogues of the Right and Left. They imposed the women;s right to vote on liberated France (France barely avoided a fascist takeover in the 1930s), Italy, and Japan.

With Richard Spencer, as with any other fascist, just about everything that he says is almost certainly wrong in accordance with liberal morals.

In case you are interested in reading about suffrage in the era when the "best" folks in town opposed women voting, because it would represent their surrendering the high moral ground by descending into the cesspool of politics, punch here.

That's not much different than what a lot of conservatives think. They believe only people who vote Republican should be allowed to vote.

Much of the opposition to female suffrage was by the saloon, brewing, and brewery businesses that women with the vote would hurt the booze business. Men often stopped at the saloon on the way home and drank up a big part of their pay packets. That meant real poverty for the wife and children. He might go home, collapse in bed, and wake up with a hangover, and when he had a hangover often came the terror of beatings.

The first feminist issue was a crusade against intoxicating liquors  and the drunkenness that led to poverty and abuse.

This could have been said of Antichrist Hitler in 1928.

Next Richard Spencer is probably going to say that only property owners should vote.

I wish that someone would analyze his DNA and see if this Nazi has any non-white ancestry.

If you think Spencer finding out he has 2% Sub-Saharan African ancestry or some crap like that would be a source of embarrassment for him, you really do not understand the alt-right.

If women shouldn't be allowed to vote, then neither should men. It's only fair.
