Can't believe there isn't a thread for this!

"Bernie wants a chicken in every pot...if he were in Colorado he would want a pot in every chicken, but that's different"- Ted Cruz

The amount of emotional rhetoric used in this debate is amazing.

The important thing to remember with these debates is that no one's mind will be changed whatsoever.

Also I watched for 5 minutes but hearing the phrase "death tax" come from Cruz's face orifice was enough to remind me I should just play video games instead.

No, not necessarily. Presidential and other high-profile debates tend to drawn in a greater number of nonpartisans or a more-politically indifferent audience. With these issue-oriented debates (a Bernie Sanders vs. a Ted Cruz on taxes, healthcare, etc) - those tuning in probably already have an entrenched point of view.

Yea but you have to watch the whole debate. Sanders gets better & better with time while Lyin' Ted slips up big.

This was a 1 sided affair. I think you could argue about healthcare being close or a tie but Sanders crushed Cruz. The part about the conservative Danish guy railing against Bernie & then turning of Cruz & his lies about European healthcare was incredible.

Also Sanders using humour & fact-checking Cruz & his lies with different studies & his Twitter feed playing Cruz calling SS a ponzi scheme was fun. The problem with Lyin' Ted is not only is he the best GOP Debater but that he keeps lying & the opponent has to end up correcting him & you lose context & end up debating Cruz on the issues he wants you to debate instead of Cruz's weak points.

None-the-less fantastic performance be Bernie. When JFK cut taxes the rates were 90% & also campaigned on Medicare/Medicaid & increased Minimum Wage & Reagan ballooned the deficit & almost bankrupted the country. And Reagan's GDP Growth rate was far lower than most, lower than the top FDR years. Even Carter had a higher or comparable average GDP Growth.

It was a relief to see politicians talk about policy instead of Trump's tweets. I enjoyed hearing different points of view on a real issue (taxes).

People watch the Pres debates because they hope the candidate they hate will say something so stupid they'll throw the race. No other reason.

I did not watch - I saw it on the monitor in the restaurant that they were talking on tax reform.

Of course conservatives and tax cutting Republicans and independents will mostly say Cruz won. And the Democrats, progressives, and socialists will mostly say Bernie won.

They may concede a point or two but that's how it goes with these issues debates which are the Thursday Night football of politics - not usually must-watch TV for casual followers but it will attract the hardcore fans.

Ted typically pays lip service to free markets with the best of them but when it comes down to it he's a crony capitalist enabler like the rest.

Bernie campaigned on big government and massive redistribution orchestrated by government. The same system that he intended to fund with the redistributed funds is the very one that was rigged against him and blocked him from being #45.

Sent to Destroy Sanders' Case for Democratic Socialism, Danish Right-Winger Bolsters It

Fellow at Peterson Institute, a regressive-minded think tank, concedes the many benefits of a nation that provides universal access to pre-school, healthcare, and college

In a televised debate with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on CNN Thursday night that quickly became a social media sensation, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) "dunked on" a Danish representative of a right-wing think tank who challenged Sanders on his support for Scandinavian social democratic policies. Jacob Kirkegaard, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute, charged late in the debate that Sanders wants to spend like a Scandinavian nation, but not tax like one. Sanders responded by highlighting the benefits citizens of Denmark, Sweden, and other Scandinavian nations reap as a result of paying more in taxes and concluded that these benefits far outweigh the costs.

"How much do you pay when you go to the hospital, if you have cancer, God forbid, and you went to the hospital?" Sanders asked. "Zero," Kirkegaard said.

"And what about college in Denmark?" Sanders went on. "Our kids can't afford to go to college. How much does it cost to go to college in Denmark?" "Well, in fact, you get a government stipend to go to college," Kirkegaard said.

"Oh. In other words, not only is it free, they give you a stipend." "They want to make sure that every kid in that country gets the best education he or she can have."

By the end of their exchange, Kirkegaard conceded that familiar right-wing talking points about single-payer healthcare—for instance, the oft-repeated claim about extraordinarily long waiting lists—are false.

There's no such thing as a free lunch. And 'free' college is not free.

Another reason the Democratic Party needs to divorce from Bernie. If he somehow gets the nomination were heading for 1972 landslide defeat.

A 1972 type landslide is completely impossible in this climate.

Low turnout rate among Democratic constituents will give way to another Trump victory. Only the hardcore blue states will vote for Bernie, the swing states will be heavily Trump, no matter how much of a disaster his presidency.

Unfortunately.

I would love to see Bernie get crushed.
