I don't like the school being named after Jefferson Davis, but I also don't like naming buildings...especially public buildings like schools, bridges etc. after people who are still alive. It's almost like you're jinxing them.

Good. They already have to attend school with a confederate flag hanging because white Mississippians are triggered snowflakes who can't accept that their heritage is rooted in the murder and oppression of black people.

I get that, but they couldn't have picked someone who is already dead, like Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, Thurgood Marshall or Arthur Ashe? It's like they're asking for something to happen to President Obama.

Who the f**k named a school with almost exclusively black pupils after Jefferson Davis anyway?

I think it's only fitting to name this school after the first black president. Why are people so superstitious?

White local officials during Jim Crow. And people aren't "superstitious" -- they're racist.

Renaming this school is an act of justice.

I don't know if it's because of superstition or because of the fact that naming places after living leaders is something banana republics do (and monarchies as well, but they're a special case).

1) How's it embarrassing?

2) Why should someone who rebelled against his country - our same country we live in today - be honored?

3) Why do you have issue with Black students not wanting their school named after the leader of a movement that believed they should be enslaved?

Where is your evidence that having something named after a person leads to their deaths? I can think of several civil rights leaders in the Atlanta area, that have schools, roads, highways, and parks named after them and are still alive. John Lewis for example.

You'd rather they keep the name of an American traitor?

Reading all of your posts, I seriously question your patriotism.

I would guess the Jefferson Davis School has had that name for a very long time and there are many many graduates who are very proud to say they graduated from that school, without adding a caveat about its name.  So why is it offensive in 2017 but not enough 1,3,5, 10 years ago to change it?  Oh, yeah..........

There's a reason the new Tappan Zee Bridge is called the Mario Cuomo Bridge, and not the Andrew Cuomo Bridge.

This is a big improvement of a school name, but Obama is still a bad politician.  Should have been renamed after someone like Martin Luther King Jr.

Who says it has to be death?  Where I live, we've had to rename several buildings, bridges, and the like that had been named after living persons when their namesakes became disgraced by activities that happened later. (Tho it was cool having our long -time sheriff do a perp walk from the jail named by our feckless county council after him.)
