The Governor should at least be liked for most of their tenure, and preferably not leave office disgraced, otherwise they are just another Christie.

New Jersey politics is one big cesspool, so it will be a long while.

When New Jersey law changes and politicians are no longer allowed to buy county lines on the ballot.

It’s New Jersey. Jerseyites are very picky. They never like their politicians for very long. So, never.

I honestly think they'll like Murphy when he's up for re-election in 2021 (Kean isn't going to run against an incumbent, and he's more likely to face Guardian or Brammick IMO). However, if a Democrat, especially someone like Sanders or Warren is in office, that may not be enough to win against a Kean, Brammick or Guardian.

They need someone to come in and destroy public sector unions and lower taxes. Otherwise it won't happen.

Yeah, slap a Jersey accent on Sam Brownback and I'm sure he'd be beloved.

I think this crosses the line into trolling.

Krispy Kreme was for a few years, before unrelated issues brought him down. The NJ gop also got a majority of the vote in the legislature in 2013 but could not break the gerrymander.

He became beloved because of his Sandy response. His approval ratings pre-Sandy were respectable but far from unbeatable. 2013 likely would've been a competitive race if not for Sandy.

2029, Tom Kean Jr. or Jon Bramnick. They're likable country club Republicans.

Better than respectable.

But of course you have already answered the question. Just do what Krispy Kreme did and you have a nice starting point.

Murphy is another Corzine clone who is likely to end up doing something to annoy Jerseyites, like hiking taxes - which he will do. Guagdano is a Christie clone who would end up annoying Jerseyites by doing something stupid like Bridgegate if she had any chance of winning - which she doesn’t.

Murphy might get a honeymoon, but his approval rate will drop a year or so after getting elected. Jersey governors are cursed. The state is in such a bind that their governors can’t remain popular for long.
