Endorsed! He'd be a very strong candidate. He destroyed Lynn Land in a Republican leaning year even as Rick Snyder survived reelection. He can win!

Gary is incredible. I've never seen such a talented politician in my entire lifetime.

Lieutenant Commander in the Navy, was the only non-incumbent democratic senator to win in 2014, from the essential electoral prospect in the Rust Belt, can help win the argument about guns against Republicans because he is a gun owner, can help solve income inequality as a result of his 22 years as a financial adviser, represented one of the most diverse state senate districts in the country making him effective with the democratic base, still has non grey hair at the age of 58 showing superior genetics, and was a part of the Occupy Wallstreet movement which makes him good with progressives.

And I'm not gonna lie... I wouldn't mind seeing him next to me when I wake up in the morning.

Gary's win in 2014 was very impressive he was the only Dem to win that year statewide and he managed to be the top vote getter. It's crazy how literally nobody talks about him.

Hi yes Imma let you finish but I disagree I think Former Congressman Jason Altmire (D-PA) has a better shot at the nomination due to his youth and also he represented a conservative district in Pennsylvania and can appeal to rural wwc which dems need

I'll give Gary Peters credit for running a pretty solid 2014 campaign (of course, combined with one of the worst GOP campaigns of that year). Seems a little plain for a Presidential campaign though, and a little too moderate for my tastes atm.

Peters is the kind of candidate Democrats need to think about if they want to win in 2020.  He's RESPECTABLY Liberal, and his liberalism is the sort that working class folks look for in a Presidential candidate.  If the Democrats want to nominate a "new face", then Peters is, IMO, their LEADING new face.

Peters is a guy who wins the votes Democrats need to recapture the White House.  He's the closest thing to Joe Biden that's fresh and in his prime age.  And he'd be the perfect running mate for Biden, if Biden were the 2020 nominee.

The biggest barrier to Peters' candidacy is that his Senate seat is up in 2020.  Peters, however, is more than an up-and-coming star; he's a star in his prime political years.  I'll say this; Hillary Clinton MIGHT have been elected if Peters had been her running mate.

Problem was a Republican Governor.

To try to direct this thread into semi-seriousness, Peters' 2014 landslide win was quite impressive given it was an open seat race and Democrats were getting massacred left and right on Election Night.

I don't think Democrats would have too much problem holding this seat if it were open in 2020, but Peters makes it pretty close to safe to where the DSCC wouldn't have to spend any money that they could instead focus on CO, NC, ME (if open), defending NH, MT, AK, and maybe IA and GA.

Is he running?  Or is this a trial balloon thread?

Too old, too boring.

He could be a good VP for someone like Harris. The issue of course is that he is up for re-election in 2020, and also has a tendency to occasionally overdo the "moderate" schtick.

I assume this thread is a joke, but Gary Peters would be an awful candidate. He's very low energy. Though he doesn't particularly like being in the Senate...
