"In the three-month period that ended Sept. 30, 12.3 percent of American adults had no health coverage, a 0.6 percentage point increase from the prior quarter and a 1.4 percentage point rise since the end of last year, the Gallup-Sharecare Well-Being Index shows. That represents 3.5 million fewer Americans with health coverage between Dec. 31, 2016, and Sept. 30, 2017, according to Gallup, and continues a trend that started earlier this year."

Run through the Trump filter: "The people-with-choice rate has spiked!"

There are plans with 99% coverage that lower the deficit, but both parties are ignoring this.

One party has been unable to do anything for years.

Like most of us predicted: this presidency is a disaster.

Just for comparison, we're basically back at 2014 levels, and it won't take much to eradicate all the progress that has been made if the trend continues.

He'll get blamed anyway, and quite frankly he deserves it for his attempts at active sabotage of the insurance markets. Besides, he promised the best healthcare.

The 22% increase for the current year over the previous year was during the Obama administration, though.

People are under the impression that the individual mandate is no longer being enforced, thanks to Trump's statements including his Day 1 executive order. This has been demonstrated to be a primary cause of lower 2017 enrollment. He has also cut the advertising budget, which hasn't been too hurtful yet, but it has brought down enrollment of people outside "open enrollment" periods. And let's not forget his constant bashing of the law and health insurance companies and what effect that has on the gullible masses who love him.

The sad thing is it's only going to get worse. The rate trumpcreases due to the CSR betrayal are going to devastate people who can't get subsidies. The executive order from last week may or may not have a huge effect, but taking good risk out of the individual market can't do anything good for the premiums.

This was always going to happen this year in the absence of pro-active policies to counter it.  Trump certainly hasn't helped.

Not surprising as one party has no interest in fixing the problem at all and the other wants to fix it without harming any of the parasites who have kept our medical system the way it is for so long, lest they withhold their political donations.

You can't seriously think the health insurance industry is anywhere near as big or powerful as the hospital industry

I had both in mind when I wrote that. The AMA has It's lobbyists too.
