I just tried to invent a Latin word for mirror, and I have it narrowed down to: imito speculum or imago speculum. For the record, the reason I am doing so is because I want a new word for the “mirror test” for species. Any preferences between the two or other ideas?

Whats wrong with the old Latin word for mirror, which is just plain speculum? Why are you trying to reinvent the rota?

Because speculum itself literally means “to look at little” or just “to look at”.

My mom and I both think I might have fibromyalgia, but she is also sick and I have no access to transportation and our health insurance is kind of in limbo now.

I dunno, usually I feel a little something of excitement when the day comes, even if the circumstances haven't been there to acknowledge it (be it because of college, or in the case of two years ago, a splitting headache...which prophetically ended up describing 2016 in a nutshell..I digress)...but right now....just nothing....

Classes haven't begun yet, church isn't until right afterwards, and even if I had stayed in Cali for just a little longer....no one would really have much to say. Dad's overtaxed, my Mother's health is probably just as if not more f&*(ed up than Scotty's, and my sis is going to be busy with D&D...so little changes there.

My immigration views just keep drifting further and further to the left.  One quiz just said I'm 62% Democrat on immigration despite being far-right on everything else.

At least you seem to be consistently Christian. Wanting to kick out all illegals and acting as if they're sub-human is inherently an anti-Christian set of beliefs if you actually believe The Bible.

Has anyone else had a horrible experience trying to write up their dissertation?

I've spend months planning, and researching it, and can talk about it for hours, but now that I actually need to get a draft done by next week, I'm just incapable of writing anything of value.

I've spend months planning, and researching it, and can talk about it for hours, but now that I actually need to get a draft done by next week, I'm just incapable of writing anything of value.

I don't know that I'd call it horrible, but I was often stuck to write anything of value on my PhD dissertation. Fortunately I got a post-doc offer that didn't require me to have completed it. As it was it took about a year and a half to write it to the point that I could defend it.
