Glad to have you back! Where have you been?

Well, a lot has happened in 4 months. Tongue The short version is that I went back to France and Italy for a while, then the quarter started and I went back in LA. Right now, I have lots and lots of grading on my plate, as well as a bunch of research I really need to get serious about. So basically the usual. Tongue

Maybe. All I know is that there was a traveling T-Mobile store, the crowd was chanting "T-Mobile"... I know one guy kept beatboxing.

Ugh.   Most Greek festivals I'm aware of are held at churches, and so are able to a decent job keeping away any commercialism that is too distracting or off-theme.

It was a geek fest, not a Greek one, so...

Most Greek feats I’ve gone to were held at my house during undergrad.

Wish me luck...I'm going to California for a few days next weekend.  Any guesses on how long it takes me to trigger the locals?

If you're triggering locals, it's only because you mentioned cheap gas prices and good roads.

Hmm, good roads ... always assumed they were a myth.

Registered for a watch auction on Sunday. It's in Geneva, so it starts at an ungodly hour. Hopefully I won't be still drunk from the night before.

A 3% wage increase for me next year.

The metal union and the employer representatives reached an agreement for the 2018 wages.

Initially, the metal union wanted a 4% rise (after all, productivity in the industry is increasing by 6% this year), but the employers only said 2% and not more. So, they settled in the middle (which I still think is too low). IMO, the employer side won this year, because exports and current orders are really booming.

It's still higher than the average inflation rate (1.88% this year), so yeah ... meh ... but ok.

As a comparison, here are the German wage agreements in the past years between the IG Metall (metal union) and employers:

2016-17 had a joint rise of 4.8% for the 21 months ending with 31 December 2017, so basically 2.7% for each year.

Since 2011, German metal workers had an average pay rise of 3% each year (Austria: 2.5%).

The German IG Metall union went into talks for 2018 with a 6% pay rise demand (something our union should have done as well ...) Tongue

Nice! Have fun out here!

I got back yesterday.  It was actually a pretty nice trip to the Land of Reagan (that was the main reason I went there in the first place), but I was also able to catch up with some old friends!
