Sounds like the onset of dementia. Evidently, he's been existing in sort of a daze for the last few months - making the wrong votes, uttering non-sequiturs during debate, etc.

Chris McDaniel is a such a repugnant human being. The conservatives continue to offer the worst of America.

It's quite disturbing that a sitting Senator is confused about how to vote and has to be coached by staff.

Going to shock you on this one, but most senators, regardless of age and party, are coached how to vote by their staff

Yeah, even many of the good ones.  There’s not enough time to read everything.

If Cochran does retire and a special is set up to coincide with November 2018, I think its unlikely that Bryant appoints someone who is likely to run for the seat for a full-term.  I think we'll get a caretaker until then, and then I think it'll be Gregg Harper's if he wants it.  Delbert and Reeves are too invested in 2019 to change course now.

I suppose, but there's nothing to suggest that he's planning anything after his gubernatorial term ends.

Jim Newell‏ @jim_newell
On Thad Cochran's absence this week, from an aide: "Senator Cochran had an outpatient procedure Monday afternoon to address a non-melanoma lesion on his nose.  The procedure was more extensive than expected, but the Senator is doing well and available for votes if needed."

After last night, I wonder what an open Presley vs McDaniel race would look like in 2018...

Jim Hood would be a stronger Democratic candidate than Presley, but maybe he'd be better off running for Governor.

Democrats should target this seat if Cochran resigns. Definitely a longshot, but like we found out in Alabama I could see it being competitive depending on candidate quality.

Jim Hood would make it toss-up/Tilt-D against a generic R, but I think he's going to run for Governor instead.

Another sunbelt pickup opportunity? But it's Mississippi. Who knows? We won Alabama yesterday!

Pretty sure McDaniel would go down. Mississippi is a lot friendlier territory than ol' Bammer.

It sounds like Bannon is courting him and it's working.

If the GOP nominates McDaniel and somehow manages to give Democrats another senator from the Deep South, I don't think I'm ever going to stop laughing

At some point, I assume Republicans will stop listening to Steve Bannon... but it's unclear when this point will be.
