I'd be strongly in favor of Pan-European electoral lists. Otherwise it's just "well, we have European elections, but it's pretty much all about local political issues anyway."

What would a pan-European electoral list be (I'm not too familiar with the EU electoral process)?

Presumably something wherein the various coalitions agree on a list, like the Knesset in Israel, that is then voted on at large, with each member nominated assigned a spot in the list.

I'm interested to see where this is going, especially with the possible (but most likely not probable) inclusion of the SPD and, I assume, other center-left and center-right parties.

I really don't see any reason for SPD or any other of the big centrist pro-european parties to abandon either S&D or EPP.

Still thinks he will end up in ALDE, or this new grouping will be a sort of ALDE+. Perhaps Vestager as Commission President candidate? Macron has praised her work and some French newspapers have written quite a bit about her

John Alderdice, Philipp Rösler, or Sigmar Gabriel would also make sense.

This sounds like they are re-founding ALDE and just not calling it ALDE. Which is fine and all, but silly. Maybe an excuse to kick out some of the more illiberal elements of ALDE (Fianna Fail, ha)?

Fianna Fail are Liberal Democratic in the Japanese Sense.

This will go nowhere, nobody really cares about the EU in a political sense.

Blatant power grab by Macron. I hope the VVD won't join. My wet dream would be a new European party formed by the more right-wing ALDE parties (VVD, Venstre) and the less explicitly Christian Democratic parties of the EPP (like the Moderates in Sweden) but that's probably not going to happen as I don't think there is a lot of space in Europe for a party like this.

Apart from the VVD, Venstre and the Moderates, such a party could include Finnish National Coalition Party, Fine Gael from Ireland, PO in Poland (contributing a very big number of seats), the Estonian Reform Party, the Romanian National Liberal Party, Czech TOP 09, and perhaps the Portuguese PSD. Don't see it happening, but it wouldn't be a bad idea.

Maybe the “European Joining Modernity and Freedom Movement” (Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron)?

Well, it looks like something like this might happen:

French MEP creates pro-Macron group

It doesn’t look like Macron was the one responsible for this, but the group seems to be made up of parties that he wanted in such a group. The member lest will be presented Monday.

Honestly, what would this party's focus be? Aren't liberals already in ALDE and mainstream conservatives in the EPP? That would probably be too niche tbh.

Not to mention that if enough EPP MEPs leave that would mean that S&D would become the largest group and would probably try to get the EU Commision president. (of course it would depend on the election results)

Still, looking at both groups my guess is that these parties might be willing to join such a group (keep in mind that I don't know much about them to begin with):

EPP

SDS (Slovenia): 3 MEPs
Kokoomus (Finland): 3 MEPs
Forza Italia (Italy): 12 MEPs
Vienotība (Latvia): 4 MEPs
Nationalist Party (Malta): 3 MEPs
PSD (Portugal): 6 MEPs
TOP 09 (Czech Republic): 4 MEPs
PNL (Romania): 8 MEPs
Moderates (Sweden): 3 MEPs

ALDE

FDP (Germany): 3 MEPs
Open VLD (Belgium): 3 MEPs
MR (Belgium): 2 MEPs
MDL (Bulgaria): 4 MEPs
Venestre (Denmark): 2 MEPs
Reform (Estonia): 2 MEPs
VVD (Netherlands): 3 MEPs

Total: 65 MEPs, represented in 15/27 countries.

Of course, this means that EPP would lose the Commision presidency to S&D as they'd only have 171 MEPs (compared to S&Ds 189).

Such a group would be the 4th largest in the EU parliament, but mostly because they cannibalized others. Honestly, the liberals-mainstream conservatives division (ALDE-EPP) seems better to me.
