The idea is that this would be set in the presidential election of 2048 for the open seat vacated by a populist democratic incumbent. People would make up a politician and their ideology. Each turn, you would determine your campaign strategy, and mild godmodding is encouraged(but nothing physically impossible please). There are no campaign points or money limiting you, just common sense(and my whims). At the end of each turn, I decide on how your strategies affect the political landscape, and produce a 'report' from the perspective of a journalist who just started covering politics.

If you want, you can be a reporter, and any news you make up will affect the race bigly.

The first turn would be set in September 1 of 2047, and each turn would cover a week both in game and IRL.

If this receives sufficient interest, I will post the first update on Saturday next week.

Depends on my schedule. It is very fluid right now, but I'd be interested given the time to do it.

Now that a few people have expressed interest, I will move to open registration for characters

It should include your character's name, your character's role(politician, journalist, or both), and ideological slant.

Would it be better to have registration be in a separate thread or keep all the meta stuff in here?

In my opinion, possibly keep the stuff in here for now unless this gets really big.

John Smith
Journalist/politician
Center-right conservative populist of the Republican Party

Born: 2010 (37 years old, that means he's seven in 2017 Smiley )

Family: Wife (Janet Smith) and three kids (Jane, James, and Joshua Smith)

Originally elected as a city councilor for the city of Dallas back in 2035 to fill a vacant spot, he served part of one term and a full four-year term on the council. In 2040, he was elected Mayor of Dallas with 43% of the vote and served one four-year term, after which he resigned from politics in 2044 in a speech which was described as not being his “last press conference”. He said he would instead like to eventually “cover the events that shape today’s political system” from the outside and that he was “done with all the commotion of politics for now." He remained out of the limelight for a while, only making infrequent campaign speeches for various people or issues, but as promised, he became a journalist in January of 2047. He addressed the people in which he said he aimed to “add a new spin to the news and provide new perspectives to today’s issues.”

Michael Henderson (D-OH)

Born: June 7, 1983 (65 years old)

Politician/journalist
Left-wing social democrat; member of Democratic Party

Family:

Renee Henderson nee Holmes; wife, aged 63; lawyer
Thomas Henderson; son, aged 21; deceased
Michelle Henderson; daughter, aged 23; social worker
Tamara Henderson; daughter, aged 20; student

Offices held:

Governor of Ohio (2035-2043)
Director of UN Office of Legal Affairs General Legal Division (2025-2033)
Deputy Director  of UN Office of Legal Affairs General Legal Division (2021-2025)
Member of UN Office of Legal Affairs General Legal Division  (2017-2021)
US Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio (2013-2017)
Chair of the Hamilton County Democratic Party  (2011-2013)
Hamilton County Prosecuting  Attorney (2009-2011)

Enjoying a somewhat unusual rise through politics, Henderson was born in Cincinnati in 1983, and volunteered for Al Gore's 2000 Presidential campaign at the age of 17. Upon graduating Ohio State University magna cum laude with a Bachelor's Degree of Law in 2005 at 22, he began getting involved in local politics and in 2008, was persuaded to run  for Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney, defeating Republican incumbent Joe Deters. He oversaw several convictions (approximately 94% of his cases ended in conviction), and became closesly connected to Renee Holmes, an English corporate lawyer working in Cincinnati.

In 2011, he resigned as PA to run for Chair of the Hamilton County Democratic Party at the age of 28, winning on the second ballot. He formed a relationship with Holmes during his two years as chair,  even as she moved to New York to work for the United Nations. This was another short-lived office, as President Obama appointed him the US Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio in 2013 at the age of 30, where he served four years. He resigned in January 2017, just before Trump's inauguration and went to pursue a career in the UN, joining the Office of Legal Affairs General Legal Division; he and Holmes were married at this time. He continued his work their nefore being appointed Deputy Director of the GLD in 2021, and his eventural appointment as Director in 2025, a position he held until 2033. He ended his career intending to return to domestic politics, immediately becoming a candidate for Ohio Governor.

He won a close primary and general in 2034, pursuing a labor-oriented agenda in his first term, passing several workers' rights laws in his first term, and pursued his agenda so fervently that an effort to recall him in 2036 proved successful, but he fought off his Republican opponent in the recall election.

Re-elected in 2038, he focused on infrastructure, creating a statewide infrastructure program that led to unemployment in the state dropping to record lows. During this term, his son was killed in a violent car crash, which still affects him to this day. At the end of his second term, he was considering retirement, but has decided to begin his work at returning to politics, beginning work in 2045 as a freelance political analyst, and one in high demand.

Name: Daniel Gomez (R-NM)

Born: July 12 1999 (49 Years Old)

Ideology:
A Combination of Ron Paul and Marco Rubio

Family:
Angelica Gomez (Wife, First Lady of New Mexico), 47 Years Old
Enrique Gomez (Son), 14 Years Old
Delfina Gomez (Daughter), 11 Years Old

Offices:
Member of the Albuquerque City Council: 2034-2039
Representative from New Mexico's Fourth Congressional District (Southern ABQ+ABQ 'Burbs): 2039-2043
Governor of New Mexico: 2043-Present

While NM has been on the Leftward Slope as of late, Congressman Gomez appears to nevertheless be strong. As Homecoming King at South ABQ High, and a Summa Cume Laude GPAer at NMSU, he has lived a very successful life. Winning a seat in an upset on the ABQ council in the 2034 Special Election, he has been on every Republican recruiter's mindset. As GOP Recruiter Randy L. Patrick once said, "Our competitiveness in the land of enchantment depends on one name being on the ballot; Gomez."

Edit: forgot his weaknesses

Weakness:
  • While strong in NM politics, he is less known outside of the southwest
  • Comes off as a career politician, in an age where (Dem Populist President) is popular.

The deadline to be in by the start of the game is Saturday. However, you'll be able to enter until the turn where the first filing deadline for the general election passes.

Yes, or you could choose a very young IRL politician.

If so, shamelessly idealized self-insert time!

Name: Emily Peebleton (D-NC)

Born: June 20, 2001 (age 47)

Ideology: A Sherrod Brown type

Family:
Betty Brown (wife, age 52)
Alison Peebleton (daughter, age 19)
Sam Peebleton (son, age 19)

Offices:
Class 2 Senator from North Carolina: 2039 - present
Mayor of Charlotte: 2025 - 2028

Biography:
Emily Charlotte Peebleton was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on June 20, 2001. The daughter of a store manager and a warehouse worker, she moved to Charlotte, North Carolina at the age of 12. In January 2019, at the age of 17, Peebleton came out as transgender.

After graduating high school later that year, Peebleton attended UNC Charlotte and began working on Jeff Jackson's Senate campaign. On Jackson's campaign is where Peebleton would meet her future wife, Betty Brown. Becoming notable among the North Carolina Democratic Party, and especially among Mecklenburg Democrats, Peebleton drew positive comparisons to the late Mo Udall.

When Vi Lyles announced that she would not seek a fifth term in 2025, the 24-year-old Peebleton was prompted to run for the open seat. Peebleton was elected mayor after a hard-fought campaign on November 4, 2025, making her the youngest and first openly LGBT mayor of Charlotte. She won re-election much more easily in 2027, shortly after securing the 2036 Summer Olympics.

In September 2028, it was announced that Troian Bellisario would be rebooting her father's series, Quantum Leap, and by October, Peebleton, an avid fan of the original Quantum Leap, had convinced Bellisario to produce the series in Charlotte. In a controversial move, Peebleton was cast as Sam Beckett in the reboot when the first choice, Alex Kelly, declined, citing schedule issues and a reluctance to commit to a full time television role. Peebleton resigned on New Years' Eve, 2028, and production on the series started on January 8 the next year.

Shortly after production wrapped on Quantum Leap in March 2037 after nine seasons, Senator-turned-Governor Jeff Jackson suggested that Peebleton run for Senate against embattled incumbent Patrick McHenry. Peebleton declared for the race in October of that year, and, alongside Danica Roem of Virginia, became one of the first openly transgender Senators after she defeated McHenry by a 1-point margin.
