Some unpopular opinions:

- I'm in favor of a general speed limit on German highways of 140 km/h (~ 85mph). Explanation for Americans/non-Germans: Most route sections on German highways have no speed limit, what means you can drive as fast as you want. The only country in the world. But a complete speed limit is very very unpopular. It's like repealing the Second Amendment for Americans. But I strongly support a general speed limit because it provides a lot more safety. And honestly, 140 km/h is enough.

- Unpopular on the forum: I very much admire Nelson Rockefeller. And I think Woodrow Wilson was overall a good and visionary president (although I don't like his racial views). And I have some fascination for Richard Nixon. Other politicans unpopular I like: Gray Davis and Tom Corbett.

- Probably also unpopular (including my own party): Despite being a Social Democrat, I'm a fiscal moderate/leaning conservative. Support deficit spending only temporarily during a recession.

Hmm...

-Political opinions by regular everyday people (including those on forums AHEM) don't matter at all.

-Who wins most individual elections doesn't actually change the course of history that much--elections are more often symptoms of societal issues than causes.

-Direct democracy is actually generally a bad thing, as it just leads to the loudest demagogue winning.

-The main goal of foreign policy should always be to avoid war/violence as much as possible.

-Political correctness is a plague--and the right is probably just as complicit in this as the left if not more. Also "trying not to be politically correct" is the same thing in reverse (i.e. valid positions are often attacked as "oh you're just being PC"). In any of it's forms it kills discourse, which is bad.

I think I have a few more, but as I said in my first one it doesn't really matter. Tongue

I don't see why any of these should be unpopular or bad...

-Not being satisfied with the direction of the GOP over the last year or two AND also not wanting a Kasich-mold party (I want a Cruz/Bevin/Rubio/Walker/Pence-type party).

-The only conspiracy theory I have ever been willing to even consider is the Seth Rich one.  All others are ridiculously stupid.

-Life comes before anything else.  As I have said numerous times, apart from violence, the ends of ending abortion justify the means entirely.

-I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman.

-Marijuana should remain illegal.

-I waffle on the merits of reinstating alcohol prohibition.  I lean towards saying that it would do more harm than good, but drinking should be strongly frowned on by society (and be something that no one would admit to doing in public).

-If alcohol were to disappear, the majority of crime would instantly disappear as well- especially sex crime, which would be virtually eradicated.

-We should repeal the 16th Amendment.  I would replace all taxes with a very low rate consumption tax.

-Social Security, Medicare, Medicade, and all entitlement programs should be gradually phased out.  They are the type of thing that there would be no need for if they didn't exist because people would get themselves out of poverty.

-There should be no minimum wage or licensing requirements at all.  They just harm business.

-People arguing against free trade and immigration are afraid of the free market.  I do support a strong border, but it should be significantly easier to come here legally.

-We need to stop talking about race- it's the only way for the last traces of racism to disappear.

-There is no such thing as "separation of church and state" in the Constitution.  It just means that you can't be forced to follow any religion, but all of our elected officials should act in accordance with their faith- and religious beliefs are a good enough justification for any political stance.

-I also support a PSA campaign to discourage secularism.  It wouldn't be targeted at what religion you follow, as long as it is one that encourages traditional family values.  Secularism is a far greater threat to our society than Islam is.  Society should go back to looking at someone funny if they aren't going to church/another religious service on a Sunday morning.

-Transgenderism isn't real, and there are two genders.  Gender and sex are the same thing, and "gender identity" is completely made up.  I go back and forth on whether or not sex changes should be illegal.  The more pressing problem is that scientists are not looking for a cure to gender dysphoria (and homosexuality, for that matter) out of fear for left-wing PC activists.

-Planned Parenthood is the most racist organization with any influence in society today.

-The left wants to divide us up into "identities" for political goals.  They figure if they can get enough "identities"/demographics to feel like they need protection (and that Democrats are the only ones who can protect them), they can win elections.

-I am completely bored by any talk of Russia and just want it to go away, whatever the outcome is.
This sounds like a very deeply seeded case of denial.  Sorry bud, but homosexuality is just something one is, not something one has.  Acceptance is the cure.

After reading that horrible list, I think I've finally accepted that he is too far gone and not worth reasoning with. Either he is playing a long-con troll or he truly believes it, but both still mean the same thing.

Alex Jones is right about chemicals causing an increase in feminized/gay animals, although he gets the point across terribly.

There are many ongoing coverups regarding how much humans are being poisoned by the modern envornment.

Armed conquest is not always bad. For example, if Malaysia were to conquer and annex Brunei and execute the entire royal line, I would have no problems with that. Wink

I think there were multiple highly advanced civilizations predating Sumeria, and - even if it's not an active or even deliberate cover up - academia resists any and all evidence supporting this because they feel it would undermine their life's work.

I believe minimum wage laws are economic foolishness, and they inevitably cause higher prices and/or more unemployment. Jobs have clearly been eliminated because of the creation of minimum wage laws and the periodic increases of them.

A complicating element these days is the earned income tax credit (which I support, but whatever). So paying lower wages is subsidized by a higher earned income tax credit. It makes the issue much more complicated. But laws that cut off job opportunities by interfering with the market are bad. So it becomes something of a balancing test, given that the tax code incentives lower wages. So another law (e.g., the minimum wage) is needed to offset that, but should not go much beyond that (so the rate of the minimum wage is subject to a constraint if one is focused on this approach to policy).

I believe that minimum wage should be at least $18/hr.

Here are some more

- The Confederacy was within their rights to secede. I don't agree with their reasoning, but I believe they should've been allowed to be sovereign and free from the Union

- Germany/The Central Powers should've won World War I, the world would've been much better as a result

- #TheResistance is much more painful to watch than Trumpets themselves. Seeing Ted Lieu's tweets give me a brain aneurysm.

- I love eating at McDonald's

Consistently cutting against the grain of the majority opinion doesn't make you virtuous by itself; being able to argue your points intelligently is a far more noteworthy asset.

Call me a “corporate Democrat” as much as you want, but we need to lower corporate tax rates, while also closing tax loopholes. The United States has one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world, and if we want to become more competitive with the rest of the world (namely Europe), we should lower our corporate tax rates.

I question whether socialism really can't work on a nationwide scale. I despise commercialism and corporatist advertising/branding. We waste way too much. American culture is poisoned by selfishness. Our culture and politics is being corrupted by news, politics, etc turning into entertainment.

I believe that 'every working man and woman should have the vote' should mean that those who are retired should be excused from the right to vote. If not for general elections that are cyclical, then for referenda and plebiscites.

If your religious belief forces you to disown a gay child for your own soul, or make you think you can speak in tongues, or think people are possessed or any sh-t like that then it's not a religious belief but a mental condition that requires an intervention.

Freedom of speech while good in principle actually equates to 'freedom for those who have power/influence' or just can shout over other people. People who are quiet, reserved, in the minority or not in any positions of power have no free speech and can only have 'free speech' if that arena is regulated.

Is the word "excused" a euphemism for "disenfranchised?" What constitutes "working?" Does it require pecuniary compensation, and if so, how much? Do you in general think that old geezers should be put out to pasture when it comes to voting?
