So who will be recognized as the Person of the Year for 2017? I think the four I listed are clear frontrunners for this. My current ranking is:

1. Emmanuel Macron - won an important election by a huge margin, has managed to stay relevant since with Paris Agreement and other things
2. Donald Trump - Clinton was the last president to win this in a non-election year, although there are a lot of reasons why he could get this again, ones that are pretty obvious
3. Colin Kaepernick - at the epicenter of a major cultural conflict in the United States
4. Kim Jong-un - has caused a lot of turmoil around the world, but TIME probably doesn't want to give it to him unless they really have to like they did in 1938 and 2016

Other possibilities: Robert Mueller, Angela Merkel, Elon Musk, Donald Tusk

Discuss.

Either Kim Jong Un or Trump, but personally I think Macron would be best.

It should be Macron or Kim Jong Un

But I have a feeling Kaepernick or Trump will take it.

It's either going to be Trump or Mueller.

Trump and Mueller share the award...especially if Mueller doesn't get fired by the end of the year.

It seems kind of early for it to be Mueller.  He's a leading candidate for person of the year 2018 though.

By himself, I agree it's early for Mueller but he could serve as the face for all of Trump's self-inflicted wounds.

I think it’ll be both Trump and Mueller, a lot like the “Men of the Year: Triumph and Trial” when the Nixon administration was going full Watergate.

Xi on the cover won't sell magazines, so he has zero chance of being named despite arguably being the most powerful person in the world right now.
