A penis has appeared at the top of an Austrian mountain

If you know a man who’s a bit insecure of his manhood, then I’d recommend they don’t visit the Austrian Alps. Why? Because a giant wooden penis has been erected on top of a 1,893 metre-high (6,211 ft) mountain. Somehow and for some reason, someone has managed to plonk a huge sculpture of an erect penis right at the top of Mount Oetscher. The phallic statue, nestled on an Alpine peak in south-western Lower Austria, was discovered by blogger Marika Roth. She said of the sculpture: ‘I believe the Oetscher just got a new mascot.’

News of the erect wooden penis quickly spread across the country, with bemused locals discussing the identity of the anonymous artist behind the statue. People are also puzzled as to how they managed to get it to the top of the mountain without anyone spotting it. The Oetscher ski lift operators were equally puzzled by the penis, but seemingly embraced the artwork as a future tourist attraction. One wrote jokingly on social media: ‘With us, not only winter is coming.’

The operators have however asked the ‘creative artist’ to ‘secure the object sufficiently’ as they fear it might not withstand a storm. One woman joked online: ‘Whoever managed to get it up there has really proven to be a man of some kind.’ Another referred to the many traditional wooden mountaintop crucifixes in Austria, and asked: ‘Instead of a summit cross, we now get summit penises?’ The Oetscher penis is not the only phallus controversy to excite Austrians this year.
