This is gonna be Harris vs. Sanchez redux. Except DiFi will probably do even better among Rs/indies than Harris did.

Great poll! De Leon is only headed for crushing defeat in 2018.

It's going to be close. Go Feinstein! She has to be careful not to make any mistakes. I'm sure De Leon has some skeletons in his closet.

He's the President pro Tempore of the California senate, I do expect him to have somewhat of a presence in the state.

A California pollster seems to think that California still has Democratic primaries for US Senate? Sad!

What are you talking about? Feinstein gets 39% of Republicans according to the poll.

There's no way other is only 10% with just 2 Democrats.

Why would it be close? Even if you assume Democrats split 50-50 (which may be optimistic for De Leon), independents and Republicans are obviously going to back Feinstein. He would've had a chance if California had a regular primary system, but due to the jungle primary his campaign was already over before it even began.

With almost 40% of Republicans going to Feinstein? The math is possible. Generic Republicans will probably only get about one-third of the vote in California next year. A chunk of Republicans will also vote de Leon because they've hated Feinstein for decades. NPP will be a blowout in favor of Dems.

I can't find the crosstabs for this poll.

Not seeing exact question wording, but usually in these cases, the only explicit options are the two candidates - Feinstein and DeLeon, plus undecided. If a voter says "other" despite being given only Feinstein/DeLeon as options, they record it as other, but they don't reveal other as being an available option when the question is being read to the voter, so most will hold their nose for one of the two candidates.

And of course, if this is the actual runoff, which is very conceivable, Feinstein will obviously win the republican vote bigly because she's not a berniecrat.

Yeah, State Senate PPT is basically unknown in the state. The poll bears this out too, since 80% of people had no opinion on De Leon.

There are going to be progressives voting for someone more progressive than De Leon, 3rd party people voting 3rd party, and Republicans voting Republican. No way is that only 10%.

Is it just me or is this not the best poll for Feinstein? If 80% of registered voters don't have enough of an opinion on De Leon to say, then he clearly has plenty of room to grow.

A decent start for de Leon. He'll certainly get into the second round unless a very popular GOPer enters the race (unlikely at this point). With one year left till the decision, de Leon has definitely a shot, though it's more like Lean Feinstein (but closer to likely Feinstein than toss-up).
