Providing Trump will be the Republican nominee again and only these twenty candidates are going to run for the White House, who would the McCain/Romney/Clinton voters support in the primaries?

McCain/Romney/Clinton voters would mostly not be voting in a Democratic primary, IMO.

Probably not, depending whether the state is an open primary or not (or worse, a caucus), but if the R primary is just Trump unopposed and the Democratic primary is competitive, they might vote in the D primary.

Correct! And as they fiercely want to thwart Trump's plans and as the Democratic nominee is likely to win, they certainly want to have their say, too.

Probably Biden. McAuliffe, Bullock, Kaine and Cuomo would be possible as well.

Hard to pin down at one specific candidate. Some names: Biden, Hickenlooper, Bullock, McAuliffe, possibly Cuomo as well.

I am one of these McCain/Romney/Clinton supporters, and I'm currently inclined to support Trump in 2020.  Even if I don't, I doubt I'd be weighing in very much in the Democratic primary.

Of the names on the list though, I generally find Booker, Harris, McAuliffe and Cuomo the most palatable.

I doubt they'd be voting in a democrat primary, but Hickenlooper, Kaine, Gillibrand, and possibly Biden (depending on how much they consider him an extension of Obama) would likely be palatable to them. Maybe Cuomo if he isn't pressed too hard of NY's high taxes.

Gillibrand is my favorite of the bunch. I also like Castro and wouldn't have an issue with Biden getting the nom since he seems to be so electable.

If Trump doesn't have a challenge and there's a candidate like in the Dem primary I'd switch registrations to vote for that candidate.

^ I suspect most people are a bit lazier and would just think, "welp, no GOP primary this year."  Then again, I know some states let you re-register at the polling place.
