The news reporter said in 1960, "even if the Democratic ticket wins the presidency but does not carry Texas, Johnson will be a disappointed man. Texas went Republican in 1952 and '56."

The next election when Texas went red was in the 1972 election. Two months later, he passed away.

Me thinks it was A.) having grown dangerously heavy since leaving the White House; & B.) resuming smoking after nearly 15 years w/out having done so that killed him, not red TX.
