Ayn Rand. Her base philosophy is good. I don't think the government should compel people to be good, but she claimed that humans shouldn't do good anyway, which makes her a selfish, shallow, evil person.

The rest were politicians of their time.

So a bunch of segregationist southern politicians and Ayn Rand? I'm no fan of hers but I think she's better than Jesse Helms.

Strom Thurmond ran against his party's nominee, fillibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1957, and later became a poweful Republican who did everything he could to hurt the Democrats and social liberalism, so he's the worst.

I was actually just thinking that if I was alive in 1948 I would have voted for Thurmond.

Ayn Rand's literature continues to influence people today. I doubt many people are reading George Wallace's manifesto and using it to guide their political beliefs.

I voted Thurmond, but this is a very compelling reason to vote Ayn Rand:
Ayn Rand. Her base philosophy is good. I don't think the government should compel people to be good, but she claimed that humans shouldn't do good anyway, which makes her a selfish, shallow, evil person.

The rest were politicians of their time.

Objectivism is just as horrifying an "ideology" as Communism or National Socialism, so obviously Ayn Rand.

I voted for Thurmond (could have been any of the 5 segregationists tbh), but I'm reconsidering my vote. I've read Atlas Shrugged and I actually liked it (even though Rand probably isn't the most talented writer, and the Übermensch thing was a bit creepy), but Rand herself made some deplorable comments about disabled and "subnormal" children. I think overall Rand had a positive influence on the world, but that mainly is because people didn't literally follow her philosophy. She loathed Reagan and Thatcher, and I'm glad no actual objectivist got in a position of power. For this she probably would have denounced me as a naive far-left dreamer or something like that, but whatever Tongue.

Point taken. I suspect that if Strom wasn't a poll option then Wallace would be getting more votes. Things would be different from this.

Strom Thurmond    16 (30.2%)
George Wallace    0 (0%)
Jesse Helms    6 (11.3%)
Orval Fabus    5 (9.4%)
Lester Maddox    1 (1.9%)
Eugene Talmadge    0 (0%)
Ayn Rand    25 (47.2%)
