Free, universal access to birth control is one of the best methods of reducing the rate of abortions, child poverty, child abuse, and the costs of child welfare available. It’ll also help to reduce the risk of contracting an STD. Altogether, such a policy is both humane and cost effective. What’s to dislike?

Aside from the outrageous COL, I completely agree.

Excellent news! FF move by the legislature of Massachusetts.

Every blue/purple state should do this.

Misread this as the "Miss" Senate passing free birth control and had an aneurysm.

If this issue was on the Oregon ballot, and it asked would you raise taxes to fund this I would vote no.

I wish something like this would pass here in Illinois.  Legislation like this, in the long run, would probably help with the crime issue in Chicago.

Proud of this body. It is good to expand all options for any point before the moment of implantation.

The only way to truly stop teen pregnancy is to tell them that all sex outside of marriage will give them AIDS babies and turn them into crackheads.

Good thing Republicans have no control in Oregon then? Am I right?

What's the point of this post? There was no mention of a tax increase in the article. And would you really want to sacrifice the numerous benefits (social and economic) of universal access to birth control over what would certainly be an insignificant tax increase?

No, because they also support using taxpayer dollars for abortions.

Actually that's not true in this case , as any time the state wants to raise taxes they are required to get approval from the voters.

In 2014 the state wanted to bail out people who had lots of student loan debt , but since it would require raising taxes to do so or going in debt they had to get approval from the voters , and the voters decided not to approve it .

Freedom Policy

Hopefully this will drastically reduce unwanted pregnancies. Abortion should most certainly still be an option, but it’s much easier to prevent pregnancy beforehand.

well free birth control isn't free (nothing the govt gives out for "free" is), there will be an increase in taxes or decrease in funds from something else....unless Mass. has a huge surplus, but we all know that can't be true.

That said, even with the hard inefficiencies built into any govt program, this has a good chance of actually paying for itself in the long run.  I still wouldn't support it though.  Not the govt's job IMHO.

Seems good in theory, but I would need to do more research on the details of how it would be funded (which I probably won't ... because it's Friday), and I echo deado's concerns.

Well, considering you're a rich boy who doesn't get laid, that's obvious.

But try not to be so short sighted and thing of the much greater long term tax savings.

Ignoring the strong need for government to provide medical care, and yes that includes birth control, surely you'd agree government has a fundamental duty to be good stewards of tax monies. This policy clearly serves that fundamental purpose.
