If he truly cares about sexual assault and the Democratic party, he would resign to show principle and to show how morally bankrupt the GOP is.

This. As for the poll, I can't answer. I'm afraid he won't.

No, and neither should he.

Tweeden's statement has probably given him an out unless more accusers come forward.

He's probably going to be forced out by the Senate Democratic caucus.

At the very least, he will be censured, which would be an insufficient apology.

I'm almost certain he will resign, and soon.  The pressure by his fellow Minnesota politicians will be immense.  As a state, this kind of thing is not an if question, but when.  And immediately with humble apologies is the fastest way to rebuilding the public trust.

I tend to agree with this.

Please expel him. Zero-tolerance policy is the only way this gets fixed.

And electing more women.

Why no woman on your presidential ticket then to spread your risk of pre-election allegations from coming up in 2019 or 2020?

Who knows. Someone could say that Mr. Biden, who's been seen as very touchy-feely & violating personal space of women on camera, had groped her in the past. There is that risk.

Is this single incident something that disqualifies the man from holding a political office?

Unless a pattern of abusive behaviour is established, I think this should be up to the voters.

But I could totally see him resign. I say it's about a 50/50 proposition.

Well, the answer appears to be no.

If Vitter and Stevens didn't resign for actually breaking the law I don't see why Franken will.
Even the victim said herself that she accepts his apology and doesn't want him to resign.
Now, if more women speak out, that's a different ball game.

Speaking coldly cynically for a moment, if he had just said he'll "ponder his future over the holidays", kept out of sight until after the Alabama election, then announced this through a staff member near Christmas, he'd have a better chance of this blowing over.

This could actually be used to Moore's benefit by arguing it's a liberal double-standard, everyone does it, etc. I realize usually only political junkies make such nuances, but how much do you want to bet Fox and Sinclair will play the holy hell out of this story and compare it to Moore's (i.e. minimize Moore's situation with prime whataboutery)? Add that to every "Christian" conservative blogger, FB poster, and activist in Alabama similarly going ape $hit over this....

Enough to bring wavering AL Republicans back home? Unlikely, but it might be the shot of adrenaline needed to bring Moore's campaign back to life on the operating table.

I think that most people have enough functioning brain cells to understand the difference between boorish, frat boy behavior and pedophilia.
Also, no Republican official asked from Franken to resign. It's pretty obvious to me that they didn't do that out of magnanimity. They are afraid that if the congressional sexual harassment can of worms opens, then it will be their heavily white male party that suffers the most.

That's his spokesperson talking on the record, so what else is he going to say?  It may yet come to pass that he ends up getting pushed into resigning, but we're obviously not there yet, and so his staff is obviously not going to suggest that it's an option.

I'd rather keep Franken even if it means we get Moore.
