That woman on the Minneapolis park commission BTRD voted against. Perhaps a Green-Dem joint ticket?

-Looks at wikipedia-

-Only two children and their both male-

DARN!!!

i know its dumb to assume women might not have any sexual harassment skeletons in their closet but its much less likely compared to choosing a male replacement.

People who don't think Ellison would do well in Minnesota miss that the Minnesota was a state that was overwhelmingly for Bernie.
But Trump came close to winning MN. Would Islamophobia sink Ellison?
Bernie won the Minnesota Caucus 61.6% or 118,135 votes, so I don't see Ellison having a problem especially because he is pro-worker. Also Minnesota has multiple Muslims/POC in office. If there is a special election I think it would be close but I think the Bernie wing would carry the victory over the establishment.

I would like to see Ellison as the Minnesota senator, we need more progressives in the midwest.

All of the Muslims in office in MN are in ultra safe D legislative/congressional seats. It's not as if we've seen a Muslim win a competitive general election.

Trump did so well in Minnesota because Hillary was a distinctly bad fit for the state and took the upper Midwest for granted. Ellison would do fine.

That said, I don't think he wants it.

News flash: Virtually no one in MN voted for Obama twice and then Trump due to Islamophobia. Ellison s a great fit for the state which is a state where a Berniecrat would do well.

Anyone know what Swanson stands for? Would she support Medicare for All? Free College?

Trump did not overperform in Minnesota (Romney got 45.0 percent, Trump got 44.9). Hillary severely underperformed.

Ellison could win a statewide race.

Yeah, Ellison wouldn't have problems getting elected statewide.  Republicans are not picking up a Senate seat here any time soon and the average voter doesn't know or care that he's Muslim.

But obviously he'll stay in the House and the DNC leadership.

99% chance Swanson would get the nod from Dayton. Her senate career was foretold by the stars.

True. There's no way Franken runs for a third term after this even if he survives, and Swanson is the clear primary favorite then.

He may still be able to win on the coattails of Klobuchar, but the idea that the average voter in Minnesota wouldn't care that he's Muslim is incredibly naive IMO. Minnesota isn't just acres and acres of BRTD's hipster neighborhood.

- It is very unlikely Franken resigns unless something else drops.

- Ellison would be a horrible choice and would likely lose statewide.  I live in rural Minnesota and sadly a black Muslim from Minneapolis would do even worse than Clinton did outstate.

- Swanson is the obvious favorite. Maybe Smith (Dayton favorite) or Walz (I think he prefers the Governors race).

- If a placeholder is appointed it would not be Mondale (he's 89 years old) but maybe Smith (if she does not want the job permanently)  or maybe retired state supreme court justice (and NFL Hall of Famer) Alan Page.

Why would someone who voted for Barack Obama twice in 2008 and 2012 not vote for someone based on being a Muslim?

- Obama is not a Muslim
- Ellison is far more Liberal than Obama and Obama is far better politician.

Peterson easily

First of all he could hold the senate seat for as long as he wants a true moderate
Second the GOP would finally pick up Minnesota 8th.

-Peterson would get crushed in the 2018 Democratic Primary.

- He represents the 7th, not the 8th.

Peterson would be the worst possible replacement appointee, because he would hand over the 7th district for the next 25+ years without a fight and as you mention, he would have no prayer in the primary.

I think it’s fair to say he has to go now. Limit the damage.
