As I mentioned earlier, the district, despite all the talk about ethnic WWC, trended away from "working class hero" Trump. Add to that the horrible environment for Republicans and I really can't see how a non-Lipinski Democrat can lose next year.
Unless of course the Ds nominate the Roy Moore of the left, a communist pedophile.

He voted against the tax bill and was part of a press conference opposing it held by the Blue Dogs. So what if he's smiling in a picture with Paul Ryan?

I personally don't care about putting effort into primarying incumbent congresscritters unless they are utterly terrible. Lipinski is a safe vote for the Democrats on everything but a couple wedge issues, which I don't see a need to cause a ruckus about (unless he would be spearheading efforts against the gays, which he is not). Not optimal if you are taking the Lipinski situation from a partisan hack perspective, but whatever. Like I said, I don't care. Lipinski will never be a deciding vote on a measure.

Such a safe vote that he voted against Obamacare. How "populist" of him!

I could agree if you said he represents his district. It is just untrue that he is not a blue dog

Marie Newman joins Justice Democrats. After Peter Jacob, James Thompson (Dem GE candidates) etc Justice Dems gets person who has a decent chance of going past the primary.

Rep. Raul Grijalva (After Rep. Ro Khanna) has already joined Justice Democrats !

No fan of Lipinski, but have no respect for "Justice Democrats" (fringe) as well.

Justice Democrats annoys me as a concept because it seeks to foist one platform onto Democrats running in vastly different districts.

Guys I don't know why you are so mean to a nice hardworking congressman. I mean he's meeting all the requirements for being a progressive!:

-Not voting for the GOP's single biggest piece of legislation.
-Went the entire Obama presidency without calling for his impeachment.

I mean, what more do you people want from your elected representatives?!?!?!?!?

I totally agree with you, know is not a time for litmus test, democrats need to keep as many senators and congressmen as possible. We can't risk losing seats we shouldn't over a couple Wedge issues, for democrats to ever win a senate or house majority their going to have to tolerate a few people that don't tow the party line on everything.

As a snark - not funny. But, gun to my head - i would still rather vote Lipinski (repeat - while not being a big fan of him) then for "Justice Democrat". Don't like fringe at all.

It typically takes a lot for me to fully support the primarying of a Democratic opponent, but I wholeheartedly endorse Newman and am glad Gillibrand would be bold enough to do so as well. Litmus-testing is not a concept I typically see favorably, but a pro-life anti-ACA Democrat is hardly a Democrat, and this district is not like WV where you need to accept the moderate Democratic incumbent so that a conservative Republican isn't elected instead; it's D+6.

There are lots of pro-life and even anti-ACA Democrats. Mostly in the South, but still - they exist in good numbers.

I don't see how this would be a loss considering Newman is also a Democrat. The idea that we need to toe the party line and "not change anything" is absurd.

Stupendous news! Clearly DINO Dan isn't the unbeatable titan that perfectly represents his constituents that many people here think if his own homestate colleagues are comfortable coming out against him. Smiley
