The only reason Democrats tolerated Lipinski was because his district was full of Archie Bunker-like WWC voters who would bolt to the Republicans if a mainstream liberal replaced him on the ballot.
The fact that Trump performed even worse than Mitt effing Romney proves that this is no longer the case.

It's funny how out of touch people on here and nationally are with the good, humble, hardworking people of this district.  Even if Lipinski loses due to a small and angry minority, he will run in the general and win.

In Tennessee?

As I mentioned earlier, the district, despite all the talk about ethnic WWC, trended away from "working class hero" Trump. Add to that the horrible environment for Republicans and I really can't see how a non-Lipinski Democrat can lose next year.
Unless of course the Ds nominate the Roy Moore of the left, a communist pedophile.

The guy must be a real jerk personally if fellow incumbents endorse his challenger.

Further to my point, Lipinski rolled out a list of endorsements from 30 local mayors, basically every major population center outside Chicago.

https://suburbanchicagoland.com/2018/01/17/war-heats-lipinski-challenger-newman/

One candidate is rolling out endorsements from big liberal organizations and far left outside politicians, and one is getting them from nearly every local politician in the area.  I wonder what that says?

That the local machine protects its own boy, just like the New Jersey one does for Menendez.

Newman can win this primary. No doubt about it.
Is it possible for Lipinski to replicate what Joe Lieberman did in 2006?
No. IL has a sore loser law.
So he would have to organize a massive write-in campaign?

Give it a rest dude. If your friend loses then he is finished. Done. Over. Caput. Finito.
He will be an ex-congressman.

I hope Republicans in the district write in Lipinski. I am beginning to think Newman is the favorite here.

Why would they do that when a REAL conservative already runs as a Republican?

Damn! Just read Lipinski didn't endorse Obama for re-election in 2012. Whether one agrees with that or not, how in hell has he survived since then?

Because Rahm and the machine supported him and dissuaded anybody who ever thought to challenge him.

Remember when the democrats tried to claim they were a "centrist" party? Good times

Remember when the Republicans claimed to be the National Security party?
Good times.

This primary seems to be a good example of the ever-accelerating trend of polarization within this country. If Lipinski is defeated (which is a strong possibility at this point), then it would mean a further consolidation of the Democratic caucus, in terms of ideological thought. Both parties have become more and more extreme in recent years, and this has contributed to polarization. Why can there not be party members who don't always toe the party line on every single issue?

I'm sure the voters of IL-3 are paying close attention to what a few random Obama organizers from many years ago have to say.  Ice burn.

Yeah, David Axelrod was a random Obama organizer.
Just like Paul Manafort was a random guy in Trump Tower.

anyone here sort of upset at the lack of decorum? You're not supposed to endorse primary challenges to a fellow house member. Especially not someone who is from the same state delegation.

I think these clowns have underestimated the strength of the madigan machine.
Houses members are supposed to endorse their party’s presidential nominee.

Especially from safe districts.

Reardless of what you think of Lipinski’s policies, it’s quite clear that the man is a piece of shit and an unrepentant liar.

The guy must be a real jerk personally if fellow incumbents endorse his challenger.

I could see Lipinski having Al Wynn's fate.
Narrowly beating a surprisingly strong challenge from the left only to get creamed two years later.
Unless of course he is smart enough to take the hint and retire.

I guess ol' Bernie's endorsement was once more as useful as a fart in a space suit.
