Thanks to Representative Haslam for sponsoring this resolution in the House. I wholeheartedly support it.

The suffering of the Rohingya in Burma (Myanmar) is horrifying and well documented. Whole villages have been set aflame and razed to the ground. People have been systematically killed for no reason other than who they are. Recently, there has even been evidence of systematic rapes of Rohingya women and girls (something that's horrifyingly common in the Southeast Asia region tbh). The accounts coming from Burmese refugees is absolutely gut wrenching. And it does appear as if these acts have been meticulously and maliciously planned and orchestrated by the Burmese government. These are crimes against humanity and should be treated as such.

By signing this resolution, Atlasia will join the world chorus against systematic violence and rape - and what may well be a genocide. I feel especially close to this issue because there are a couple Rohingya girls at the local refugee shelter where I volunteer my time. I think about their smiles and how they run around and play like any kids would and I'm both filled with inspiration that Atlasia is a place where they can call home and horror that they had to flee out of utter terror of their original home. I wish they didn't have to go through what they've gone through, but hopefully Atlasia can do it's part along with the UN to both put an end to this senseless violence and provide shelter to its victims so that they can live the happy and peaceful lives that they deserve as human beings.

I support this resolution. Atlasia must condemn the appalling, sickening campaign of violence undertaken by the government of Myanmar against the Rohingya people. These actions are bordering on genocide, and so we must do what we can to end this abhorrent violence.

With no objections, we'll bring this to a final vote. Senators please vote AYE, NAY, or ABSTAIN.
