Ugh, we needed him out, so that Christie could appoint a replacement since Doug Jones is going to make Democrats+Collins and Murkowski the Senate's ruling coalition.

Even if he was convicted, his sentencing and prison report date would be way ahead in the future (especially because he'd be free on appellate bond) so he'd be able to stay in the Senate until after Governor Blowhard leaves office.

Besides what he was on trial for, what's so bad about Menendez?

I vote not guilty because the perks he was taking from that eye doctor were probably bribes, but it can't be proven without a reasonable doubt. From the NY Post:

I think their friendship was legitimate and that Menendez was incredibly stupid to allow that kind of appearance of impropriety, but unfortunately it's not something that can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Obama hated Menendez and that's why he ordered the Justice Department to pursue these charges back in 2012.

This is New Jersey. They're not going to put Rush Holt in. Maybe settle for a quarter decent?

The one time when 'both sides do it' would be accurate, and yet nary a peep.

Abbe Lowell faces his toughest challenge yet in Menendez trial

And if Menendez was looking at being acquitted, it was only because the legal threshold for bribery in our nation is a sick, sad joke.

Even if he didn't bribe that doesn't mean he's a good Senator, he should be primaried in 2018.

Everyone has the right to the best defense they can afford.  "Both sides do it" implies that there is something wrong with Abbe Lowell defending Menendez and Kusher.

Bribery Bob is a disgrace to the US Senate. In most other industrialized nations, stuff like this is a slam dunk crime.
