Newsflash: they've already become the Party of Trump & Moore (even though I still think that Trump is secretly a Democratic mole). The only good thing that he has done during his first year in office is that he has succeeded in dividing the Republican Party into the potty-trained camp vs. the circus of the deplorables with the grown-up Republicans in the party being cast out as RINOs or threatened with primaries or retiring.

This GOP civil war isn't getting the scrutiny it deserves. You watch if/once Democrats take control of Congress, Trump (assuming Mueller hasn't thrown him in the slammer by then) will be making deals left and right with Chuck & Nancy much to the chagrin of the deplorables. Trump cares more about his own image and wants so desperately to get a win that he'd sign a bill putting Crooked Hillary on Mount Rushmore if it would get him universal positive press coverage.

I’m confused why this is a big deal. He has pretty much said all of  this publicly.

He's right. It's fascinating how this dude went from one of the most conservative members of congress to the moderate hero of the GOP.

His words say moderate, but his voting scream far-right conservative.

Flake is not a moderate by any definition of the word.  He's a sane conservative.

Exactly.  You can "vote with Trump" on things that you agree with him on and still find him repulsive and want to lessen his influence over the Republican Party.  Jeff Flake can't GENUINELY oppose Trump's influence over the GOP if he doesn't vote like Elizabeth Warren??  LOL, GMAFB.  If discourse is going to get better, *sane conservatives* can't be attacked for something so stupid.  Don't like his politics, Jolly Democrat?  Fine.  He probably doesn't like yours.  Who cares?  His issue with Trump is the way Trump treats people, the dark elements of our society he energizes and the alarming (to Flake) direction he wants to take the GOP even further in ... Flake is a FF for voicing those concerns AND still being decidedly conservative on policy.

Sen. Jeff Flake(y), who is unelectable in the Great State of Arizona (quit race, anemic polls) was caught (purposely) on “mike” saying bad things about your favorite President. He’ll be a NO on tax cuts because his political career anyway is “toast.”

Trump is so politically astute, basically daring a retiring Senator with nothing to lose to vote no...lol.

He is sober minded, but still far right economically. People like him and Paul Ryan would be very dangerous if they ran for president, as their fake moderate personas would hide how extreme they are ideologically.

Now you are getting why I am a Trump voter.

Trump's politics are those of a REAL moderate Republican.  Of course, Trump has anything but a moderate persona, so he's viewed as an extremist.

The Bushes seem "moderate", but it was Jeb Bush who pushed a 10-20-LIFE bill (since modified) while Governor, along with laws allowing judges to sentence defendants to the statutory maximum in most cases and requiring defendants to serve 85% of their sentences, along with removing air conditioning from FL prisons.  If you think that's good enough for criminals, that's fine, but imagine how dangerous that makes the environment inside Florida's prisons for its correctional officers; guarding inmates without air conditioning with minimal incentive to behave.

Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney have "moderate" personas, but their proposals have long been giveaways to the wealthy, while trashing the safety net.  Mitt Romney lost an election because someone recorded him giving a speech to wealthy donors talking about how 47% of folks feel entitled to medical and dental care (in part).  It showed Moderate Mitt with no compassion for the toothless hordes with unhealed broken bones whose real healthcare comes from going to the ER and hoping for the best; whose healthcare is a GoFundMe account dependent on people actually giving a crap about the needy person.  (Trump gets it; he understands that without some kind of viable healthcare for folks, people will be "dying in the streets".  I don't believe it's an accident that AHCA hasn't been repealed yet.)

Jeffy Flaky is more of the same.  If Trump was as PERSONALLY bad as he implied, he should have endorsed Hillary, or (at a minimum) endorsed Gary Johnson; that would have actively LED folks in a PARTICULAR direction.  If Jeffy Flaky really views Trump as POLITICALLY bad, he ought to stand and deliver and CONVINCE PEOPLE HE'S RIGHT.  (What a novel idea!)  Trump, for all his bluster, has gone out and performed in life.  Flake, for all his faux "statesmanship", is a quitter, making excuses because the going got tough.

Trump isn't a moderate or conservative. He is only political beliefs are what is best for Trump. If he was a true moderate he wouldn't have allowed Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell to control of his legislative agenda.
