I think that will be the most common answer.
I wonder if someone lives close to Peaked Island. Tongue

Maine isn't the most extreme, that Alaska point is in the Eastern hemisphere.  No, you need the islands next to the line to get both east and west.

So discounting Maine, since it fails, I'm going with Hawaii.

The northernmost point of Antarctica lies within the Southern hemisphere.

Peaked Island lies east of the International Date Line, btw.

In order to not have Sail Rock, Maine, as the closest point to your abode as an American, you must live in the Western half of the Pacific states. If you live north of Chico, Butte County, California, then Point Barrow, Alaska, is the closest place, if you live south of Chico, then Ka Lae, Hawaii, is the closest extreme point.

Barrow, Alaska is the closest. Interestingly enough, the other three points are all pretty similar in terms of distance - only a couple hundred miles between the distance to the second closest and the fourth closest.

Hawaii. Ka Lae is also the only one of these points I've been to.

Do we have any Russian forum members?
I remember one Japanese member, who is probably the only one living the closest to Peaked Island.

No, that's not the southernmost point of the 50 states.

But not the 180 Meridian, which btw also makes Russia the Western most European country too.
